TheNintendo Switchsystem has been available since early 2017, but with every passing holiday season, this hybrid console manages to end up millions of more homes in the world. And for the new owners that are getting to grips with this piece of gaming technology, here’s a guide onhow to connect a Nintendo Switch to a TV. Before reading further, it’s worth mentioning that the Nintendo Switch Lite models cannot connect to a TV or monitor, as th handheld-only system doesn’t connect to the standardSwitchdock.
How to Connect a Switch to a TV
There are a few things that a Nintendo Switch box will come with, and that’s a dock, an AC adapter, and an HDMI cable, among a few other things. The most important thing that people will need to connect a Switch to a TV is the dock itself. Pop open theback of the Switch dock, and there will be three spots for different plugs.

The top port is for the AC Adaptor, which brings power to the dock. The USB cable is for accessories, and the HDMI port will connect the dock to a television. Switch owners should plug in the AC adaptor and HDMI cable into the back of the dock. From there, plug the AC adaptor into a wall outlet, and plug the other end of the HDMI cable into one of the HDMI ports on the television (or monitor). Just verify to remember the number of the port on the TV. The input channel on the TV will need to be changed to match the port that theHDMI cable is inserted into.
From there, carefully slide the Nintendo Switch system into the dock.The Joy-Concan be on or off, but you’ll need a way to play the Switch on the TV, so it might be best to remove them first or use a Pro Controller.
To turn the Switch on while it’s in the dock, players can press the Home button on the right Joy-Con, or press the power button located on the top-left corner of the Switch console, just left of the volume control buttons.
Once the dock is plugged in and connected to a TV with the Switch inserted,the TVneeds to be set to the right input channel, and the Switch screen should appear from there. And that’s really all there is toconnecting a Switch to a TV.
These same instructions will also work for the Nintendo Switch OLED Model, which has a slightly larger and better screen and improved back stand.
