Summary
There is one potentially intriguing aspect ofHades 2as a sequel that could provide extra interest for fans of the original. Of course,Hades 2is already set up to appeal to fans of the first game, resurrecting many aspects of the game that helped to make it so popular. As a sequel, it is the duty ofHades 2to expand on what made the first game so good, as well as add a few twists of its own. It will also have some advantages that it would not have had were it not a sequel.
Considering that the firstHadeswon a Hugo Award, a sequel is not unwarranted. A fast-paced roguelike based on Greek mythology,Hades' gameplay and art design were both standouts among that year’s indie titles. However, the characters were a major selling point when it came to winning fans over. From the gods that players received boons from to the inhabitants of the House of Hades,Hadeswas awash with lovable characters every step of the way. It’s enough to keep the player going even as Zagreus gets defeated again and again in his attempts to make his way out of the underworld.

Hades 2 Can Benefit Greatly From the First Game’s Cast
Hades 2 Is Expanding the Series' Cast
So far, there have already been a fewnew characters inHades 2that have been shown. Chief among them is Melinoë, the new protagonist and sister of the previous game’s hero Zagreus. Other members of the cast include the goddess of witchcraft Hecate, who takes the role of Melinoë’s mentor, as well as Nemesis, the goddess of retribution who appears as an intimidating warrior woman. In addition, some members of the old cast will be returning as well. In particular, Hades has gone from the main threat so the person that Melinoë must save from a new villain, the titan Chronos.
Melinoë Could Have Some Fun Interactions With Returning Characters From Hades
There are a lot of potential interactions that Melinoë could have withHades 2’s returning characters. Zeus is coming back, so he and the other gods that provided boons such as Artemis and Dionysus. They could play a similar role to last game, giving boons to Melinoë as they did Zagreus, or perhaps the capture of Hades could place them in a different role. After all, while relations between the gods were contentious in the first game, they all still obviously cared for Zagreus. It’s likely that their interactions with Melinoë will have the same warmth, and it will be enjoyable to see them again.
Since the plot ofHades 2once again involves familial matters among the gods, many previous gods are likely to return.
Melinoë and Zagreus Could Have Great Scenes Together in Hades 2
Of course, the biggest potential interaction for Melinoë lies in the possibility ofZagreus returning inHades 2. Players spent the whole first game with Zagreus, getting to know his delightfully snarky personality and determined nature. If he ends up playing a role inHades 2then players will need to see some sort of interaction between him and Melinoë. Whether it’s just a talk, or a serious story encounter, the Prince and Princess of the Underworld should get to spend some time together at some point. Seeing how the respective protagonists' personalities bounce off each other seems like a can’t-miss possibility.
Hades 2has a rich source of characters to draw from after the first game, and the developers should make use of it.Hades 2may have difficulty topping the original, but some new interactions with some of the old cast could help it on its way to doing so. Melinoë is a different character from Zagreus, and that means that her interactions with his old allies could cover some new ground, or show new sides of both parties. RevisitingHades' all-star cast could be a huge advantage forHades 2.
