A fan ofBattlefield 1has created a parody of the reveal trailer, replacing the gritty game-based footage with video from the Spongebob Squarepants cartoon.

When DICE revealedBattlefield 1, the studio chose to do it withan adrenaline-filled trailerwhich demonstrated a gritty turn away from futuristic warfare. The newWorld War 1 settinghas proven to be a popular choice withBattlefieldfans, who have given theofficial YouTube reveal for the game over a million likes, almost four times what rival seriesCall of Dutyhas received.

Of course, the more attention a video has, the more likely it is fans will play around with it, and today is no different. Swapping platoons for Plankton, a YouTube user named Jonathon Kane has created an unlikely mashup of theBattlefield 1trailer using only video clips fromSpongebob Squarepants. The Bikini Bottom-based trailer somehow manages to keep up with the original trailer in terms of carnage-filled cartoon imagery, and fans of the show are sure to enjoy the recreation.

Take a gander at the video below, where Spongebob and Patrick don some authentic gear and get mowed down like a bunch of newbies:

Much like the actual game itself, the cartoon version of the reveal trailer containseverything from tanks to bi-planes, which are poised to make things very interesting on the battlefield. The Great War was a time of great technological advancement, but it also means that everything from horse-riding officers to tanks were utilized in the same battles, with many older generals attempting to employ tactics that would no longer work in the ‘modern’ battlefield. Suffice it to say, multiplayer will be quite an interesting feat, and it looks there is plenty more to the game than the traditional trench warfare that became infamous during World War One.

It looks like the game itself will also be supported byadditional free content post-launch, which will supposedly come in the form of a free map update shortly after the game’s release. While this hasn’t been officially confirmed by DICE or Electronic Arts, we’ll keep you posted as more information aboutBattlefield 1comes to pass.

There was, evidently, a surprising amount of related footage between DICE’s reveal trailer and footage fromSpongebob Squarepants, even including a take on the dramatic blimp-shadow scene. Infinity Ward alsocongratulated the developers on its successful reveal trailer, which seems to have fared much better than theInfinite Warfaretrailerwhen it comes tofan reaction.

In any event, we have to imagine a World War One based game was a better fit for Spongebob, who has less experience flying through space shooting zombies than he does donning costumes in Bikini Bottom.

What do you think of the parody trailer, Ranters?

Battlefield 1is scheduled to invade on August 01, 2025 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
