Updated on June 30, 2025, by Jake Fillery:God of War Ragnarok’s best Runic Summons are entirely dependent on the playstyle of each gamer. While there is a notable difference between them all, it’s worth being aware of the fact that both Atreus and Freya have 4 Runic Summons each, and their upgrade stats, damage stats, and where to find them, can all be found below so that players can better understand the best Runic Summons in God of War Ragnarok for their builds.

Atreus has access to two different arrow types: Sonic and Sigil. The former provides further stun, while the latter aids in extended elemental damage from Kratos’s frost, burn, and force attacks. With players aware of that fact, they might see some use out of Atreus’s Falcon’s Dive Runic Summon, which brings forth spectral falcons to disrupt enemies by diving into them and the ground.

This attack does provide a generous amount of Runic damage and helps to stun enemies out of their attacks, but considering Runic damage isn’t thebest to aid Kratos’s arsenal, it can’t help but feel a tad underpowered when compared to Atreus’s better Runic Attacks.

Sometimes, no matter the difficulty, a fight can be overwhelming, and Kratos’s demise seems assured. However, the Bitter Squirrel Runic Summon might be able to help out in a more defensive way, since it summons a spectral squirrel that will scavenge among the fight in search of a guaranteed Healthstone.

The fact that Kratos can provide himself with more health in the midst of a battle, or just after exiting one, will help keep him alive for longer when fighting more ghastly foes. It’s a great Runic Summonfor those who struggle to stay alive, but it offers no combat capabilities.

Atreus/Loki’s affinity for animals is even further explored with the Rampaging Ibex Runic Summon, where Atreus brings forth a spectral ibex to ride and charge enemies. It’s great for building up a stun meter and causing some damage, and the synergy it has with Kratosallows for the Greek god of war to capitalizeon the stun meter for a decent finisher.

Even when playing as Atreus, this Runic Summon will make Atreus temporarily immune to damage, and locking onto enemies to charge into them as a battering ram feels like a punch from Kratos himself.

invoke the storm

Wrath of the Wolf allows Atreus tosummon three spectral wolvesthat will repeatedly pounce and attack enemies, stunning them and dealing a decent level of damage to ensure that they are minimal threats that Kratos can easily destroy.

Wrath of the Wolf is definitely worth upgrading, and through further upgrades, more wolves will be summoned, which means even more damage and even more stun damage to ensure the battlefield is overrun with friendly spectral wolves that are on Kratos and Atreus' side.

One of the first Runic Summons players will acquire once Freya becomes an ally is Seidr Exhale, which will see Freya utilize her magic to unleash a deadly poison gas cloud that will seek out and strike individual targets to make them weak to Runic damage and provide some carnage.

Yet, it’s a tad underwhelming, as all Seidr Exhale does is just make enemies a tad sick, and the poison isn’t all that great. Kratos doesn’t have to worry about the effects of the gas cloud, but it’s too slow to see any real synergy.

Players definitely should embark on Freya’s journey with Freya’s Missing Peace, which will see her unite with the powers of Vanir and Aesir to summon Steel Harmony. This ability is great for damage and stun, for it will see Freya wield both her Vanir and Aesir swords to unleash devastating blows and waves of stun and Bifrost to enemies.

Stun is always useful for Kratos’s potential to use a finisher, and Bifrost eats away at health like nothing else, so to see the combination of the two is something that is definitely worth using, especially with its quickened slashes.

Invoke the Storm has an alarming use, but a terribly lengthy cooldown time. Using Invoke the Storm is great for its ability to create an electric field thanks to some charged fireflies, and further upgrades of the Runic Summon will see these fireflies chain lightning to multiple enemies and even explode.

The damage and Runic potential of Invoke the Storm are great, but the problem lies in its speed, as it’s not the fastest Runic Summon out there, and players are going to need to wait just a tad longer than they would like to see an army of electric firefliesswarm the battlefield.

Battling it out with the new Queen of the Valkyries isn’t going to be easy, butthose who accomplish this goalwill see Freya reunited with the powers that she once forsook. The Queen’s Roar is Freya’s heightened power, as she will unleash the potential of the Valkyrie Queen by using her wings to provide both stun and damage with a quick cooldown.

The Queen’s Roar is incredibly useful in the hardest combat situations, but the real problem with it lies in the fact that it’s an endgame Runic Summon that players won’t get much use out of, since the main story has already been completed.
