Summary

FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki has finally commented on whetherBloodbornemight get a PC port.Bloodborneis widely considered one of the PS4’s greatest hits, selling over seven million units by the end of 2022. The game was released nearly a decade ago in 2015, and fans believe the release deserves - and could find - even more exposure. In addition, most FromSoftware games have been ported to the PC, butBloodborneis still nowhere to be found on the platform.

Bloodbornewas released as a PS4 exclusive, published by Sony Computer Entertainment, and Japan Studio, the publisher’s subsidiary, co-developed with FromSoftware on the game.Japan Studio faced closure in 2021, and Sony Computer Entertainment retained ownership ofBloodborne’s source code. This is key to understanding why a port forBloodbornemay not have happened yet. Only four of the many FromSoftware titles have included Sony Computer Entertainment within the publishing process.

In an interview for PCGamer, Wes Fenlon asked Hidetaka Miyazaki about the possibility for aBloodbornePC port, and his answer was cryptic. Hidetaka Miyazaki noted that he is “not opposed” to the idea, but emphasized that he is not at leisure to directly okay it. Miyazaki answered “If I say I want one, I’ll get in trouble.” Most of the popular multi-platformFromSoftware releases likeElden Ringhave been handled by Bandai Namco, which appears to be more lenient in these cases, but Sony owns the publishing rights toBloodborne, which means that ultimately, it gets to make that call.

Gamers Wonder if Bloodborne Will Ever Get Another Shot

Gamers have wanted much moreBloodborne. In addition to a PC port, some have begged for aBloodbornePS5 port and a sequel. Fans who have been asking FromSoftware to push for this may have their hearts in the right place, but the action may be misdirected. Requests for any moreBloodbornemay be better off placed with Sony, although this is not the first time that fans and developers have collaborated in pressuring Sony for a change. Recently, Sony walked back the requirement to link PSN accounts forPC gamers to continue playingHelldivers 2.

That’s not to say that pressuring Sony similarly forBloodbornewill work at all. The publisher may have plenty of different reasons why there hasn’t been any movement forBloodborne. However, the game’s dedicated fanbase remains committed. Recently, aYharnam Hunter outfit showed up as pre-order DLC forAstro Bot, and it confirmed that at the very least, Sony remembers thatBloodborneexists, even if the game never gets a rerelease.
