Following a recent update ofFriday the 13th: The Game’s official website, the developers at IllFonic have decided to let the cat out of the bag and announce that the asymmetrical multiplayer survival-horror title is set to receive a slew of fresh content. As it so happens, fans of the release should now look forward to the inclusion of a new playableJason Voorhees, a fresh map, and two new counselors.
To start, beyond the announcement of there being a newly playable Jason Voorhees forFriday the 13th: The Game, IllFonic didn’t have many additional details to share other than the fact that he will have unique kills. In addition to this, it was also revealed that all existing versions of the character will receive new kills, but the studio didn’t share specific numbers or information about how they would be executed.

When it comes toFriday the 13th: The Game’s new map, IllFonic has stated that multiple new maps are in development, but there is one in particular planned to launch “sooner than you might think.” It will be released for free, and instead of completely giving away the secret of what the area will contain, the developer has said it’s “ripped straight from the films.” To be more specific, this is separate from the recent revelation thatseveral existing maps are being modifiedto also have smaller, denser versions.
As far as the two new counselors are concerned, IllFonic teased that they could be complete newcomers or characters that have existed within theFriday the 13thuniverse for quite some time now. Furthermore, a new skin pack will let players customize their counselors' looks, as will the Spring Break 1984 clothing pack. The latter beach-themed DLC launches “soon” and consists of bikinis and swimsuits for $4.
Finally, in conjunction with all of the aforementioned new content, IllFonic revealed that Retro Jason – that is, a skin released back in June as an apology forlaunch problemsplaguing the game – will be temporarily removed. This is being done to provide it with a “little TLC work” that is expected to take about a month, with an overhaul consisting of new music that plays for fans on both sides in a match.
All things considered, it’s great to see that Gun Media and IllFonic are steadily improvingFriday the 13th: The Gameand following through on its plans to inject even more fresh content into the title. However, if the companies really wish to get on the good side of its fan base, the publisher and developer would do well to add the long-awaitedsingle-player modesooner rather than later.
Friday the 13th: The Gameis available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
