Apple TV Plushas released the first trailer for its upcoming dystopian centered seriesSeverance, which attempts to resolve the universal dilemma of separating one’s home and work life from one another. The series written and created by Dan Erickson will also include Ben Stiller, who will serve as director and as an executive producer on the project.
Apple TV Plus’Severanceis opening its doors with two episodes to get things started. Afterward, brand-new episodes will be released weekly for the nine-episode dystopian adventure. Erickson sets the narrative in Lumon Industries, a company taking a new approach to work-life balance with its new severance procedure. Those who provide consent undergo a process that severs their work life and personal life memories from one another. While present at work, personal memories are unavailable, and while at home, one cannot attain memories from work.

“Every time you find yourself here, it’s because you chose to come back,” are the words uttered by Mark Scout, played by Adam Scott, at the beginning oftheSeverancetrailer, which briefly introduces the character. Scout elected to undergo the severance procedure, which immediately sends a chill down one’s spine as the repercussions of such a move quickly unravel. Scout has established genuine friendships at work, which quickly evaporate once he leaves the severed floor. While driving away, Scout almost hits a co-worker, but it’s clear he has no memory of whom the individual is.
The Apple TV Plustrailercontinues with a short-lived overview of work life for Scout, which concludes with Scout receiving a promotion due to the termination of one of his closest friends in the office, Petey. The robotic-like nature of the meeting with Patricia Arquette’s character is unsettling, along with the blanketed white atmosphere that feels absent of all emotion. However, things take an abrupt turn once Petey confronts Scout outside of work, opening a door of mystery as Scout faces the nature of his work at Lumon Industries and the nature of his mentality. “I used to think it would take a monster to put someone in a place like that office. Especially if the person was himself,” expresses Petey, played by Yul Vazquez.
TheApple TV Plus trailercreates an ominous feeling, hopefully translating in the nine-episode series. The tension encased in each moment shines, anchored by a mystery dependent on its workers not remembering the things they do once they return home. Such secrecy hints that something alarming may lurk within the walls of Lumon Industries, but how the truth will surface relies upon the series protagonist. Like any dystopian narrative, the puppet master pulls the string of every individual within its grasp unsuspectingly to achieve its objective but faces disturbance once the veil dissolves from the eyes of the ignorant. Scout looks to be the protagonist destined to uncover the truth lost within his reality.
The cast ofSeverancealso includes John Turturro, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman, Michael Chernus, and Christopher Walken.Stiller (Tropic Thunder)will direct six of the nine episodes, with filmmaker Aoife McArdle taking the remaining three. How things will play out in this series is unclear, but the trailer points towards a hair-raising experience.
