Summary
The upcomingFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthwill have entirely new cities that did not appear in the original game, according to its director Naoki Hamaguchi.Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthis among themost eagerly awaited 2024 games, and it seems like it will be a fairly unique take on the original story, just likeFinal Fantasy 7 Remakebefore it.
Final Fantasy 7 Remakewas a big hit, selling over seven million units since its release in 2020. While the first game in the remake focused on Midgar,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthwill be set in the world outside of it, revisiting memorable locations such as Junon, Nibelheim, Gold Saucer, and others. However, it seems that fans can expect more than that.

Naoki Hamaguchi was recentlyinterviewed by Game Informer, and confirmed that the game will have completely new cities that were not featured in the originalFinal Fantasy 7. According to Hamaguchi, “InRebirth, we’ve added these types of cities like the Crow’s Nest – totally new cities that did not exist in the original to go deeper and create this whole worldview ofRebirth.” However, it seems that most of theseFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthlocations will be optional, smaller places that will somehow complement the narrative. During the interview, the director explained that Crow’s Nest is a very anti-Shinra town and that players will hear about it in Junon, and have the chance to visit there before moving to Costa del Sol, for example. It’s a neat idea that expands the game’s world and could help it feel even more alive.
As previously known, new cities are not everything that may change inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Last month, the game’s creative director Tetsuya Nomura referred toSephiroth as a protagonist inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth, hinting that the character would play a larger role in the story. The first part of the remake already changed some story beats, so players will probably see even more narrative changes coming up soon.

Apart from changing the story and the scope of the world, the upcomingFF7will also offer new gameplay options. Recently, the creators ofFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthrevealed a dynamic difficulty mode. This new mode, which could be picked instead of Easy or Normal, automatically adjusts enemy difficulty based on the skill level of the player and will work as an option for people who want a good challenge.
