Final Fantasy 15released for Xbox One and PS4 nearly a year ago, but the latest entry in the RPG franchise is far from finished. A steady stream of DLC has kept console gamers busy during the last ten months, there arerumors of an upcoming Switch release, and aPC port has already been confirmed for early 2018. According to a recent interview, the PC port may offer some very compelling motivation to revisit the title yet again.
One of the bonus selling points of any PC release is that the version will be far more likely to offer support for the modding community. This is rarely the case for console versions and it give the game the chance to feel fresh and live on for years after its release on PC (seeFallout,Elder Scrolls, orGTA5for proof). Level editing allows creative players the opportunity to build new content for the game that is only limited by their own imagination, and the stunning of world ofFinal Fantasy 15seems like a perfect sandbox for modders to explore.
In a recent interview withengadget,Final Fantasy 15game director Hajime Tabata discussed this, and other, benefits of bringing the title to PCs…
“There are were limitations to the game to ensure it ran on consoles, but that’s less of an issue with PCs – especially when it comes to modding. PC gaming has a culture of customization and modification, and we want to ensure that those gamers can do what they want to the game. We’re looking into the possibilities of a dedicated level editor – we want to ensure that gamers will be playingFFXVfor a long time to come.”
Just imagine theThomas the Train modsthat could be plowing through the realm ofFF15by early 2018. It’s also possible that the modding community may find ways to create new playable characters in the game’s story mode, either by switching perspective to the supporting cast or swapping in otherFinal Fantasy 15icons like Cloud. We hope the game is fairly open in terms of modding and that the community has the chance to run wild and share their creations with the rest of the player base.
