Summary
Though the Growing Light content update forFinal Fantasy 14is just days away at the time of writing, Square Enix released the preliminary patch notes to give players an idea of what to expect when the update goes live. Prior to the release of Growing Light,Final Fantasy 14will undergo 24 hours of maintenance, rendering the game temporarily unavailable.
During FanFest and the Tokyo Game Show,Final Fantasy 14game director and producerNaoki Yoshida gave players glimpses of what they will see in Patch 6.5starting on Tuesday, October 3. However, not every piece of content that Yoshida revealed will be available right away. The main story for Growing Light will be split into two parts, with the first part arriving in Patch 6.5. Players will have to wait about three more months for the second half of the Growing Light story, as Patch 6.55 is slated to release in mid-January 2024. However, the start of October will have plenty of activities forFinal Fantasy 14players to sink their time into.

Just days before the release of the Growing Light update, Square Enix published the preliminary patch notes forFinal Fantasy 14Patch 6.5. While players will have to wait a little longer to see Job adjustments, the patch notes cover whereFF14players will need to be to begin the first half of the main story update. Starting in Radz-at-Han, players will begin a seven-quest chain that will culminate in a battle with Zeromus, one of the mosticonic villains in theFinal Fantasyseries, in the Abyssal Fracture trial. Players who want to start unlocking the Thaleia alliance raid will instead want to make for Mor Dhona and take part in two lengthy quests. Clickhereto read the full patch notes.
Starting with Patch 6.5,Final Fantasy 14players on the free trial and the Starter Edition will be able toplay content from theStormbloodexpansion, including the entire main story up to Patch 4.55. However, in addition to current restrictions, free trial players will be unable to take part in Ultimate raids. Nonetheless, with two expansions worth of content, the updated free trial ofFinal Fantasy 14will likely lead to an influx of players. To counter this, Square Enix will implement new measures to alleviate congestion issues in Patch 6.5 and beyond.
With new content to do, there will also be plenty ofopportunities forFF14players to make some serious gil. All in all,Final Fantasy 14Patch 6.5 will have something for almost every player to enjoy.
Final Fantasy 14is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version launching in Spring 2024.
