Jamie Dornan is best known for his portrayal as Christian Grey in theFifty Shades of Greytrilogy. But as iconic as that role is, he has a lot more to offer as an actor, and he’d love the chance to prove that to audiences. Given the recent news that he met with Kevin Feige andMarvel Studios, it looks like he may view the MCU as his chance to do so.
Dornan currently stars inBelfast, a coming-of-age drama directed by Kenneth Branagh, who is also known for helmingMarvel Studios' firstThorfilm. While notable filmmaking talents likeRidley Scott have been bashing superhero films, Dornan has been rather vocal about his desire to play a superhero.

In a new interview with the New York Times, Dornan shared his admiration for Robert Pattinson after theTwilightactor managed to snagthe role of the Dark Knight inThe Batman. Dornan admitted that he wouldn’t mind following the same trajectory; swapping out Christian Grey’s suit and tie for a cape and spandex tights. In pursuit of his goal, he proposed the idea to Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, while promotingBelfast, and that has led to some talks with the company regarding a potential role in the MCU.
Dornan also admitted that his interest in the superhero genre stems mostly from his three kids, who are obsessed with the comic book world. Despite having been in three war movies already, he thinks that being involved in a superhero project —under the Marvel machine, no less — would be the ultimate way to gain brownie points with his little ones. It is worth noting that the NYT piece does not provide an exact quote from Dornan about meeting with Marvel Studios, it merely makes a note of such conversations taking place.
Though Dornan has never played a superhero on-screen before, he isn’t too far removed from the genre. His filmography goes beyond justFifty Shades of Grey, with acting credits in action films and thrillers such asRobin Hood(2018)andA Private War(2018). He’s also dabbled in the fantasy genre before as well, with appearances in TV shows such asOnce Upon a TimeandThe Fall.
Surely, his experiences on those sets will come in handy if he ever joins theMarvelStudiosfamily. It may be a while before we see Dornan in the MCU, but for now, you’re able to catch him in his next filmBelfast, which will release next year in January.
