Animal Crossing: New Horizonshas been out for several days now, and in an unexpected way, hasunited people all over the worlddue to the global lockdown brought by the COVID-19 virus. Now, when thinking ofAnimal Crossing, most people would go about the game’s cutesy aesthetic, friendly villagers, and the way it allows people to escape from the chaos of real-life to a simple, quiet, and peaceful environment where nothing bad ever happens.

AlthoughAnimal Crossing: New Horizonshas many quests and goals for players to accomplish, it still gives players the freedom to do anything they like at the pace they prefer. Now, it appears that a handful of fans has turnedAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsinto a dark and creepy game that would probably make Nemesis fromResident Evil 3cower in fear.

One of the most common trends inAnimal Crossingright now shows some players pretending to be an ax murderer. Several screenshots of this have been posted on Twitter, where the character is seen standing behind some NPC’s while holding an ax. The creepiest part of these images is when the character puts on the surprised face emoticon, which shows the player’s character with eyes wide open staring blankly into nothing. Just to be clear, this facial expression is not edited by players, but instead, it isa reaction that is available in the gamefor players to express their feelings.

Another thing that some players like to do in Animal Crossing is to make blood spatter patterns. To the uninitiated,Animal Crossing: New Horizonsallows players to create their own custom patterns, but the game would always warn the players not to make offensive ones. Now, with thesenew customization options, some fans have created what appears to be “murder rooms” in theirAnimal Crossinghomes, complete with bloody handprints and even creepy writings on the wall that appears to be written in blood.

There are also those that made patterns showing ominous symbols around the island, turning what was once a peaceful community into a cult village. Of course, these creepy occurrences made byAnimal Crossingfans are not entirely new. It is worth remembering that when the mobile game,Animal Crossing: Pocket Campcame out, several people also made cults where villagers would congregate and worship lamps.

Of course, while the reenactment of a murder or the creation of blood-spatter patterns and cult symbols are achievable in the game, there are some screenshots out on Twitter that are obviously fake and appear to have been edited by players themselves. Nonetheless, it appears that fans are really enjoyingthe many possibilities that can be done inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, and these clever but creepy screenshots show that the game would suit the aesthetic of every player whether they like the traditional cutesy atmosphere, or maybe something darker.
