It’s almost been a decade since gamers had a newDragon Agegame to play, and they still don’t know whenDragon Age: Dreadwolfis getting released. BioWare’sDragon Ageseries has been beloved among RPG fans since the first installment, and although there were some ups and down over the years, many players are excited forDragon Age: Dreadwolfand the continuation of characters like Solas and Varric’s stories. The next entry is bringing with it some interesting changes to the franchise and will be the first direct sequel of all the games so far.

Some elements ofDragon Age: Dreadwolf’s narrative, gameplay, and settings are still yet to be revealed, but with recent leaks that appeared to show off alpha gameplay, it seems like the fourth installment of the fantasy franchise might be close to completion. Ever since it was revealed in 2018,Dragon Age: Dreadwolfhas kept its cards fairly close to its chest, and fans are waiting for a more substantial story trailer to be released. However, BioWare has dropped a few tasty details to make sure players are intrigued enough about its next major fantasy title.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s Trailers And Clips

The Game Awards 2018 gave players thefirst teaser trailer for the as-yet-untitledDragon Age 4, which didn’t reveal much, but did confirm that elven mage Solas would be making a return and that the next game would be revisiting Red Lyrium in some capacity. This small insight seemed to suggest that the nextDragon Agewas still in early development, and it was a little while before fans had more news of the upcoming game. Gamescom 2020 showed off some moreDragon Agegoodness, with a new trailer that featured concept art and some new characters that players theorized might be companions.

There was another trailer shown during The Game Awards in the same year which was narrated by fan-favorite series regular Varric, which hinted at another return for the roguish dwarf. It also showed off Tevinter with its impressive and magic-infused capital city that players haven’t been able to explore yet but which will presumably bethe main setting forDragon Age: Dreadwolf. There was also another recent in-game cinematic which was called ‘Who Is the Dread Wolf?’ which focused on Solas in more detail, helping to introduce the controversial character to any newcomers to the series.

Updates From Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s Development

The title ofDragon Age: Dreadwolfwas finally revealedin 2022 in a tweet when BioWare really started to ramp up its pre-release content updates. This linked to a blog post that detailed how the game would be a direct follow-up toDragon Age: Inquisitionand explained more about Solas' role as the game’s antagonist. In addition to the handful of trailers, teasers, and behind-the-scenes clips, some ofDragon Age: Dreadwolf’s development team have shared other details along the way. Whether these were humorously obscure like BioWare’s executive producer Mark Darrah’s screenshot that was heavily redacted, or if they were helpfully informative like a few of the developer’s blogs, there has been more and more information as the game’s release grows closer.

Despite some high-profile leavers fromDragon Age: Dreadwolf’s development team like senior creative director Matt Goldman, executive producer Christian Dailey, and production director Mac Walters, the game is still apparently on track for a 2023 release. Players were also concerned with the back-and-forth nature of the upcoming title’s focus after it was announced that the multiplayer and live service elements were removed in favor of a single-player experience followingAnthem’s disappointing reception. However, the trailers have painted an interesting picture, andDragon Age: Dreadwolfstill holds a lot of promisefor fans of the franchise.
