After playing enoughElder Scrolls Onlinemany players end up changing their play styles, weapons, armor, and combat focus for their character. Part of this is changing skills, but it’s impossible to know which skills you will actually use while leveling up. Thankfully, resetting Skill Points inElder Scrolls Onlineis a pretty simple process.

Edited June 03, 2025 by Erik Petrovich: The ability to respec ESO skills that players have from the very start is underrated, especially compared to some RPGs that put exorbitant prices on this core feature of player freedom and experimentation. With the upcoming release of the Arcanist class with the “Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom” Chapter is already setting the ESO world ablaze with theorycrafting and build ideas for its Hermaeus Mora-inspired ability trees. But each ESO respec method comes with drawbacks – It costs a lot of gold to buy an ESO respec in-game, and though there is an Armory exploit, the downside is not being able to use the Armory in its intended way. Of course, in the end, players can always cave and buy one with real money Crowns, too.
Method One: Pay Gold At Specific Shrines
The first (and most popular) way to reset Skill Points inElder Scrolls Onlineis to go to a temple and make an offering at the correct altar. Each of the game’s three faction capitals are home to a shine like this - though the God associated with each temple often changes. Shrines like this can also befound in many major DLC cities, like Leyawiin in the “Blackwood” Chapter, Vivec in the “Morrowind” Chapter, or Gonfalon Bay in the “High Isle” Chapter.
TheShrines to Stuhn, Stendarr, S’rendarr, and the Father of Mysteries(Sotha Sil) are each dedicated to resetting Skill Points. Depending on where the player is, a different Rededication Shrine will be available. Make sure only to spend money at these Shrines to reset abilities and skills on the hotbar, as they tend to be surrounded by others that either provide an Attribute Point reset or let players get married.

To reset Attributes like Mana, Health, and Stamina, interact with the Shrines to Akatosh, Auriel, Alkosh, and Kyne. To get married to another player, interact with the Shrine of Mara. But avoid both when focusing on reallocating Skill Points.
The price to reset ESO skills is a bit high, easily costing more than 10,000 gold to reset all Skill Points at max level. Most of the time, players won’t need to reset all of their Skill Points, and don’t need to refund all of them at once. When players want to refund more points the price goes up, so it ends up being a bit cheaper to reallocate ESO Skill Points one by one.

Method Two: Use The Armory System
The Armory System was added toElder Scrolls Onlinewith theDeadlandsDLC updateat the end of 2021. This system gives players multiple slots to load character builds from. These builds are saved from the player’s current loadout, but by always keeping one slot untouched, it’s possible to reset Skill Points for free whenever you like.

When you want to reset Skill Points, head to the Armory station (available for free in the Crown Store) at your Player Home.Load a completely blank “build"onto your character, and you’ll find all of your Attributes, Champion Points, and Skill Points refunded to you. This also unequips everything, so be sure to re-equip your sets before leaving or creating another build.
It’s important to note that the Armory only gives players two slots, so by using one slot as a free respec, players won’t be able to swap builds on the fly. It does save money, and give a convenient way to start from scratch, but it stops players from being able to change between a PvP and PvE build, for example. It’s best to use this exploit only a few times until one has settled on a build, then save back over the blank slate.– or buy another Armory Slot from the Crown store to avoid this problem altogether.
Method Three: Pay Crowns For A Skill Point Scroll
The last method for resetting Skill Points inElder Scrolls Onlineis to pay for a Skill Point Respec scroll with Crowns, which can be purchased in-game for real-life money. This method is boththe most convenientand the most expensive, though.
For thecost of 700 Crownsplayers receive a scroll that lets them re-spec whenever and wherever they like. 700 Crowns is a pretty good sum, though, and it’s far cheaper to use the Armory or pay the gold cost in-game. For those who really just can’t bear traveling to a Shrine or messing with the Armory UI, Crowns can be purchased in-game, or players can use their monthly ESO Plus Crowns to finance this convenience.
The Elder Scrolls Onlineis available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S
