At E3 2018, Bethesda offered fans the briefest of teasers forThe Elder Scrolls 6, which accomplished virtually nothing except confirmed that the game is coming at some point. Since then, Bethesda has been radio silent onThe Elder Scrolls 6and what the game will have in store, but a trademark dispute may reveal its setting.

This trademark dispute has been ongoing, and is between ZeniMax Media, Bethesda’s parent company, and the website BookBreeze.com, which publishes a series of novels calledRedfall. Redfall is also a location inThe Elder Scrollsgames, and rumors have been pointing to it being the setting ofElder Scrolls 6for some time now. If Redfall is the setting ofElder Scrolls 6, it’s likely that it will also be the game’s subtitle, which could be why Bethesda is pushing hard to get the trademark.

Some fans may already be familiar with this trademark dispute, but there has been a new development. Apparently, ZeniMax has asked for the dates of the trademark dispute to be pushed back by a month as it is engaged in settlement discussions with BookBreeze, meaning some kind of negotiations are going on between the two companies.

This is good news forElder Scrollsfans, as it means they may not have to wait quite as long to get their hands on the next game in the long-running franchise. Previously, this trademark dispute threatened to delayElder Scrolls 6to 2021 at the earliest, though it’s possible that the game still won’t be out until then.

Right now, Bethesda is working onStarfield, it’s new open world sci-fi game that is expected to be the focus of its E3 2019 presentation. Considering this,The Elder Scrolls 6may still be years away from release. However, due to the poor reception ofFallout 76, it’s possibleBethesda will fast-track the game’s developmentto get itself back in the good graces of its dedicated fans.

That’s at least the theory of game industry analyst Michael Pachter, who has made the bold prediction thatThe Elder Scrolls 6will actually release in 2019. That seems incredibly unlikely, especially sinceThe Elder Scrolls 6isalmost certainly a next-gen game, but we may find out more during Bethesda’s press conference at E3 in June.
