AnElden Ringplayer has pointed out an interesting detail about the giant dog near Gowry’s Shack. The shack can be found east of Caelid before players reach Sellia, Town of Sorcery. It is one of many subtle details thatElden Ringfans are still discovering throughout the game.
Earlier this year, the game hit shelves and digital storefronts worldwide and quickly became a hit with audiences and critics. The game was FromSoftware’s fastest-selling game andElden Ringcontinued to sell well even six months after its release. Like theDark Soulsgames,Elden Ringwas praised for its grim and depressing setting, difficult gameplay, and unique-looking monsters. Also, likeDark Souls, the game has its fair share of monsters that are based on dogs.

Giant dog creatures can be found throughout the world ofElden Ringand players have never been shy about sharing their encounters with said creatures. For example, oneElden Ringplayer managed to trick a pack of dogs to attack the Night’s Cavalry boss, giving them a significant advantage. In a more recent post, Reddit user opulentbum showed a picture of one of these dogs located near Gowry’s Shack. What the user noticed, however, was that this dog had what appeared to be a collar and/or chain wrapped around its neck. It was the first time opulentbum had seen such a feature on one of the dogs, and it was suggested in the commenters that the dog belonged to Gowry.
In addition to possibly being owned by Gowry, the dog can potentially kill the NPC, if players fail to kill the dog or sneak by it. In one particular instance, theElden Ringdog glitched through Gowry’s walland actually appeared to be staring down at the player. If the players managed to get past this chained dog, however, they are treated to one of the game’s sadder quests.
In the game, Gowry is an NPC who can be found in his home. The character was once a great sage and speaking to him will trigger a new quest line, where players attempt to cure a woman named Millicent of an apparently incurable case of Scarlet Rot. Sadly, like many other storylines,Gowry’s quest line inElden Ringis one that is full of heartbreak and betrayal. However, beyond dealing with the giant dog before getting to his shack, the creature apparently has nothing to do with the quests.
