Early on inDragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s second DLC, players will gain access to a brand new transformation for both Goku and Vegeta, the Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form. As the direct ascension of Super Saiyan God, this form is obviously more powerful, but it differs in other ways as well. This includes differences in gameplay, story, abilities, and even appearance, all of which help to set this form apart from its predecessor and those Super Saiyan forms that came before it. Goku and Vegeta also explain exactlywhat the Super Saiyan Blue form ismore concisely in the game, clearing up some confusion about it in the show and manga.

Those players with theDragon Ball Z: Kakarotseason pass should have access to the second DLC after loading up the game and installing a few updates. This will once again transport the player to Beerus' planet for some more training with Whis. The Super Level Up training is still available, but players already at level 250 should head over to the new Limit Break trainings instead. Completing these will eventually unlock Super Saiyan Blue for both Goku and Vegeta, as well as a host of other new abilities and even a new Know-how Technique.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot SSB VS SSG Gameplay Differences

The most notable difference between the two forms inDragon Ball Z: Kakarotitself is how they are handled in terms of gameplay. For the Super Saiyan God form, players are granted a 150% boost to all stats, but this number can be increased by leveling it up in the skill tree. At maximum, level, theform provides Goku and Vegeta a 200% boost to all statsand opens up some new fighting styles and techniques as well. The Super Saiyan Blue form has similar effects, but to a greater degree.

Super Saiyan Blue starts off with a 200% boost to all stats, but can also be upgraded twice more to make it grant a massive 250% boost to Goku and Vegeta’s stats. While this number may not seem all that different, the extra 50% goes a long way considering how high the Saiyan’s base stats are at this point. There’s also a new set of combos, and a powerful new Know-how skill that increases the duration of Goku and Vegeta’s surge dramatically. Finally, theSuper Saiyan Blue form gives both Saiyans access to two new techniques, boasting greater damage and utility than those made available by Super Saiyan God.

SSG VS SSB Acquisition

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot SSB VS SSG Acquisition Methods

Both these forms are obtained by Goku and Vegeta in very different ways than previous Super Saiyan forms. In order to tap into the original Super Saiyan form, Goku and Vegeta had to experience intense rage spurred on by the loss of a loved one and wounded pride respectively. Likewise,Super Saiyan 2 was reached by Gohan after he finally let his rage against Cell be unleashedand used it to save the world. In the case of both Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue, rage has nothing to do with it.

To gain the Super Saiyan God power, Goku andVegeta had to undergo a ritual with five other righteous Saiyans to aid them. Performing this ritual was actually rather easy, making Super Saiyan God one of the easiest Super Saiyan forms to obtain despite being one of the most powerful. By contrast, Super Saiyan Blue can only be achieved through harsh training, and in Goku and Vegeta’s case, it required teaching from an Angel. To tap into the power of Super Saiyan Blue, Goku and Vegeta have to use their Super Saiyan form while already in Super Saiyan God mode, making it much more powerful but also very draining.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot SSB VS SSG Appearance

The obviousdifference in appearance between SSB and SSGis the color. The Super Saiyan God form envelops the Saiyans in a red aura, with fiery bursts of energy shooting out in every direction. By contrast, Super Saiyan Blue’s aura is predictably blue, and appears much more similar to that of previous Super Saiyan auras. That said, the visual differences go even beyond just the color and shape of the aura, as the forms change the Saiyans' bodies as well.

When in Super Saiyan God form, one of the most striking differences is how slim it makes the user. Whileother Super Saiyan forms tend to increase the user’s muscle massand make them generally beefier, Super Saiyan God has the opposite effect. On the other hand, Super Saiyan Blue returns the user to their actual size, representing an increase in muscle mass from Super Saiyan God. Even the transformation process looks different, with the change into Super Saiyan Blue featuring a blinding light and dramatic, slow reveal of the Saiyans' new colors.

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot SSB implications

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot SSB VS SSG Story Differences

In addition to all that Super Saiyan Blue serves a different purpose than Super Saiyan God in the anime, manga, and game. In all cases, it is generally agreed upon that, though stronger, Super Saiyan Blue uses a lot more stamina. Goku and Vegeta even mention this after unlocking thenew form inDragon Ball Z: Kakarot, with Vegeta clarifying that applying the Super Saiyan form to Super Saiyan God is most likely the reason for the intense stamina drain.  The two also mention that once they’ve mastered the form it should be easier to maintain.

In-game, mastering Super Saiyan Blue is represented by attaining the Auto Super Saiyan Blue ability. This Know-how skill, much like Auto SSG or Auto Super Saiyan, allows Goku and Vegeta to start every encounter by transforming into the new form. What’s more, rather than draining Ki, the Saiyans actually regenerate Ki while using this ability. Another way Super Saiyan Blue’s intense Ki drain is represented inDragon Ball Z: Kakarotis through thehigh cost of the new abilities Goku and Vegeta get, as they are much more expensive to use than anything else in the game.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
