Capcom has seen great success as of late thanks to thriving franchises likeMonster Hunter.Resident Evilhas also been a heavy hitter for the developer, withResident Evil 8in development for next-gen consoles after the back-to-back releases ofResident Evil 2and3remakes. However, one property that many fans would like to see brought back isDino Crisis, with a Swedish illustrator and concept artist recently offering up an idea for what that series could look like today.

Alexander Forssberg is currently a freelance artist whose previous experience in creating concept art for video game companies has included work on major titles likeStar Wars Battlefront,Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, andGuild Wars 2, according to his resume posted on ArtStation. Yesterday, Forssberg posted four pieces of fan art “for an imaginaryDino Crisisremake” to Twitter, with higher-resolution versions available through ArtStation.

Dino Crisisreleased on the PlayStation in 1999, spearheaded by director Shinji Mikami ofResident Evilfame, and spawned a short-lived series of survival horror games in the same vein that swaps out zombies for dinosaurs and other large-scale monsters. It has become a cult-classic franchise in the decades to follow, but Forssberg’s atmospheric, high-contrast art shows how the dinosaurs could shine in aResident Evil 2-styled remake on modern hardware.

Throughout the year there have been various rumors and reports regarding a potentialDino Crisisremake, or even a continuation of the series, but almost all of them suggest fans should not expect anything from the dormant franchise anytime soon. One report this June suggests thatCapcom Vancouver pitched a newDino Crisisgameto the main studio in Japan, but it was not optioned, and the Canada-based subsidiary was shut down in 2018.

Despite this, interest in the series of prehistoric-focused games has lingered, and many fans are showing their interest in a remake through less conventional means. Earlier this year, a mod called Dino Evil 3replaced the zombies inResident Evil 3 Remakewith dinosaursand swapped out protagonist Jill Valentine withDino Crisis' lead Regina.

If Capcom does not put forth aDino Crisisremake soon, fans will no doubt continue to ask for its return. Creators like Forssberg offer an interesting window into what a potential remake could look like, but it’d be wishful thinking to say that kind of fan art might sway the developer to start up a new venture. In the meantime, projects like theupcomingMonster Huntermovieshould offer Capcom fans something to watch.
