EveryDestiny 2expansion or Annual Pass add-on brought a new activity to the game: Escalation Protocol, Gambit, Black Armory Forges, the Reckoning, and the Menagerie. It appears that the next expansion, Shadowkeep, will also add a new activity to the game after recent comments from franchise director Luke Smith. In Part 2 of his Director’s Cut, a series of blog posts taking a deep look at the past and future ofDestiny 2, Smith teased fans with a new activity coming in Shadowkeep that Bungie has yet to reveal.
While discussingthe new Seasonal Artifact item, Smith said that Seasonal Artifacts would helpDestiny 2give players another path to power in Shadowkeep even if they don’t want to play"the raid, Iron Banner, or the [REDACTED]".In his post, Smith redacts the name of whatever activity is coming in Shadowkeep.

Because the mystery activity is mentioned alongside the raid and Iron Banner, which are endgame activities that have acted in the past as a source of getting Powerful Rewards to reach the level cap, it is likely that whatever mode Bungie has yet to reveal also falls in this category. Interestingly, with an explanation later on aboutDestiny 2adding pinnacle power rewardsfor completing endgame activities, which allow players to push past the 950 level cap, this new mode may also be another source for pinnacle power in Shadowkeep and Season 8.
There is absolutely nothing to go on as far as speculating what this newDestiny 2mode could be. And, granted, there could even be multiple new modes coming in Shadowkeep with the one mentioned here being positioned more in the endgame. Bungie hasan entire lineup of announcementsto make revealing more about Shadowkeep before its October 1st launch, so it probably won’t be too long before players start hearing about what this activity is.
Bungie has already pulled back the curtain on Armor 2.0 with a deep dive into the newly redesigned armor system coming in this fall’s expansion. Based on this and the teases of the coming announcements, it appears thatDestiny 2: Shadowkeepshould inject plenty of things to do and gear to chase for fans this fall.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeepreleases Jun 27, 2025, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
