Destiny 2is one of the biggest games around right now, and that includes its file size and how many components it’s made of. This is often mentioned by developers when talking about the challenges they face while working on the game, but also when discussing the possible unwanted consequences of big patches and updates. As such, it doesn’t come as a surprise thatDestiny 2’s latest patchcaused bugs and issues all around, unfortunately, but it also poses the question of what can be done to prevent this from happening and why many changes can look like stealth nerfs given their absence in patch notes.
Destiny 2’s big mid-Season of Defiance patchwas supposed to ship a plethora of bug fixes and tweaks to the game’s sandbox, ultimately improving the overall experience for Guardians across the board. With buffs to underwhelming weapons in PvE, changes to Lightfall’s revamped difficulty inDestiny 2, and much more, this patch had the potential of paving the way for Season of the Deep to be even more successful than its predecessor. While this can still happen, the current patch took a massive toll on the game and caused widespread problems that are affecting everyone’s gameplay, as well as a big headache for Bungie.

Destiny 2’s Mid-Season Patch is Causing Game-Breaking Issues
Possibly one of the strangest occurrences forDestiny 2’s mid-season patch was to change the displayed winner of last year’s version of the Guardian Games event, with the Warlocks' golden eagle being taken from them and instead showing a golden snake for the Hunters. This is just the tip of the iceberg, however, as players have been reporting plenty of more concerning issues, including some of the new Lightfall mods not working properly - or, at least, differently than before despite not being part of the patch notes.
Mods that generate Orbs of Power can be a bit spotty as of now, at times not doing what they’re supposed to. Likewise, the new Strand Fragment called Thread of Generation seems to generate far less grenade energy than it used to, effectively nerfing some of the builds that players have been toying with, while also leaving them in the dark about whether this is intended or not. Similarly, ever sinceDestiny 2’s Strand subclasseswere released, some players have been using the built-in grapple melee attack combined with mods like Ashes to Assets and Hands-On because it counted as both melee and grenade damage, but this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.
While Season of Defiance was the perfect time to farm Master Duality for Artifice Armor thanks to a glitch that allowed players to defeat its first boss by luring it off the map, the new patch seems to have stealth-nerfed the next best farming method. In fact, farming the final boss of the Duality Dungeon on Master used to award armor pieces with high stat rolls and valuable spikes in two or three stats, but players are reporting that after the new patch, this is no longer the case. Furthermore,Destiny 2’s seasonal storyfollowing the death of Amanda Holliday spawned a quest that is mostly glitched, since it can’t be completed if players already claimed its reward.
Alongside a slew of other issues, such as Barrier Champions not being stunned with gunfire while players have the Radiant buff, a game-breaking bug caused some Guardians to be temporarily banned from PvP and competitive activities. Perhaps one of the most irritating changes for the community at large, however, is thatfarmingDestiny 2’s Overload Terminal is no longer as profitableas it was, since one can no longer open the free chest three times by zapping to different zones and back. This was probably never intended, but the big patch notes did fail to mention any changes in these regards, leaving players to wonder if it’s a temporary change or a permanent one.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
