With Lightfall, Bungie tried a different approach with its lore progression, wherein the seasons following Lightfall would unravel details about the DLC’s campaign. This meant that the expansion’s core campaign left several questions unanswered. To an extent, Bungie has delivered on its promise of explaining things like theorigins of The Witness inDestiny 2or the purpose of The Veil. Reddit user linkenski wrote a lengthy post explaining why Bungie should end the Light and Darkness saga with The Final Shape’s campaign. They emphasized the point that since Lightfall’s approach failed and the community hasn’t been happy with the progression, The Final Shape should explain the entire plot upfront and leave nothing to the imagination. Furthermore, they mentioned how Bungie has an extremely rare opportunity toexplain the entire story ofDestiny 2with the expansion.
Many fans agreed with the post and also admitted that this should be the direction Bungie takes with theDestiny 2story. One of the biggest reasons fans want this to happen is because the Light and Darkness has been going on sinceDestiny 1and there are still a lot of questions to be answered. Additionally, there are many elements in the story whose future remains uncertain even as the Light and Darkness saga nears its end, so the players feel an absolute conclusion that does justice to the lore and doesn’t leave fans with more questions is imperative.
As for the game’s future after The Final Shape DLC, Bungie has hinted towards a possible direction where theVex could become the primary antagonists inDestiny 2. The Vex are extremely complex beings with players still not fully understanding their origins or motivation the inDestiny 2universe. However, the developers have explained that theVex have taken a step back for now and will probably show up once a victor between the Traveler and The Witness is determined.
