Destiny 2was first released over four years ago now, and the game has undergone a lot of changes from that period that drastically altered both its narrative and gameplay. It was also the time when Cayde-6 died at the hands of Uldren Sov and the Scorn Barons, which was a major turning point in the franchise’s history and pulled players back into the plot.

This may be partly due to how the game’s seasonal model changed Bungie’s approach to new content, which is now diluted over the span of a few weeks rather than all-out on day 1. As such, both story bits from the seasonal narrative and gameplay elements like new guns and Exotic quests, are handed out throughout the whole Season, which is a good way to keep players involved.

Yesterday, Steam registered a high peak in terms of active users playingDestiny 2concurrently, and that was high enough that the game became the third most played on the platform. The numbers were good, hitting around 125,000 players, and they matched other records that Bungie’s shooter held, especially when compared to its all-time peak of 292,513 active users. This is even more relevant when comparingDestiny 2’s numbers on Steam with other contenders for the top 10 in the charts, with games likeDota 2peaking at 583,244 users against the game’s all-time peak of 1,295,114 players.
Destiny 2has been steadily climbing the charts, and this may very well be due to a perfect storm surrounding it. As a matter of fact, a huge factor in yesterday’s peak could be due to thecatalyst for Ager’s Scepterreleasing after the weekly reset, making the act of farming it very desirable for a lot of players. Then, because yesterday was the weekly reset, it also means that new story bits inDestiny 2’s Season of the Lost came out.
The storyline forDestiny 2’s Season of the Lost is particularly important now because it’s all about how Savathun will get the Traveler’s Light inThe Witch Queen. Furthermore, it seems likely thatCrow will find out about his previous life as Uldren, and that too might have major consequences for the game moving forward.
