The Season 8 seasonal pursuit quest for Iron Banner has a bit of a problem with one of its steps, but the good news is that there is a way around it.Destiny 2players began to run into a problem with the “Scour the Rust” objective in the “Conviction” step of the Iron Banner quest, which is how players can get theIron Banner armor for Season 8. The objective calls for grenade launcher kills in Iron Banner, but players began to notice that getting kills with grenade launchers did not actually progress the objective.
At first through experimentation, and then through confirmation fromDestiny 2developer Bungie, players can progress the “Scour the Rust” objective and get past the “Conviction” step by getting kills with submachine guns instead of grenade launchers. There are actually a few issues with the quest step, with it mentioning Super kills in the tooltip and a grenade launcher icon for the actual progress bar. And then the solution of submachine guns actually progressing the requirement throwing in another inconsistency.

While it is a bug in the game, thankfully it is not completely locking players from progressing through the Iron Banner seasonal pursuit. It seems unlikely that Bungie will have time to hotfix the issue before the end of Iron Banner, so even if it does get fixed in the future it is good for players to know this how to get around the grenade launcher kills bug inthe Iron Banner questfor this event in particular.
And, for those who have trouble with grenade launcher kills in the Crucible (especially those with negative memories of the grindyquest for The Mountaintop), this might be a blessing in disguise, as players can probably more easily get kills with submachine guns like The Recluse than grenade launchers.
On theDestinysubreddit, a few players have also posted about similar issues that some objectives are not progressing but at this time, outside of this major bug with the grenade launcher kills, it does not seem like enough players are experiencing the same issues to flag it as another major bug. Players are recommending to each other, however, that if they run into a similar problem to try different kinds of weapons to see if it will progress any other quest steps players may be having an issue with.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeepis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
