Bungie has released a new teaser trailer for‘Crown of Sorrow,’the brand new raid coming toDestiny 2tomorrow with the launch of Season of Opulence.Crown of Sorrowtakes place deep within the underbelly of the Leviathan, a location that houses three of the five existing Raids inDestiny2and home to Cabal Emperor Calus (or at least his robots).
Following a 2-hour maintenance on all platforms,Crown of Sorrowis due to go live at 4:00 PM PDT on June 4, six hours after therelease ofSeason of Opulence. The new Raid takes players back to the Leviathan once again, this time facing off against the Hive after one of Calus’s Loyalists loses his mind to an Ascendant Hive relic in the ship’s underbelly.
According to the new trailer, Calus has called upon the help of the Guardians after the Hive have infested the Leviathan. Players will be able to gather a Fireteam of up to 6 players in the new endgame activity,earning powerful new rewardsincluding brand new Raid Weapons and Gear upon completion.
The first Fireteam in the World’s First Raid Race will be rewarded with a unique championship belt themed after the Leviathan and Season of Opulence. Fireteams that complete Crown of Sorrow within the first 24 hours of the Raid’s launch will also be rewarded with an exclusive in-game Emblem, meaningPower Level preparationis going to be vital in the 6-hour window beforeCrown of Sorrowgoes live.
There will be a new “mode” active inCrown of Sorrowfor the first 24 hours known as Contest,placing a cap on players' Power Levelsduring each encounter (700 PL cap during the first encounter, 720 PL cap at the final boss). Bungie has been looking for new ways to make the World’s First race fair for all players and this appears to be the best way to ensure that everyone starts on an even playing field, leaving the rest up to RNG drops.
Following the release ofSeason of Opulenceand the newCrown of SorrowRaid, Bungie has revealed that thenext chapter ofDestiny 2will be announced in a livestream on June 6. The wording appears to indicate thatDestiny 2will move into a third year of content, leaving the potential release ofDestiny 3in 2019 unlikely.Destinydid a similar thing with the release of Rise of Iron and given that Bungie will now be developing and publishing the franchise, it’s expected that a full sequel might need more time.
Destiny 2is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
