Kevin Feige gave an update on the much anticipatedDeadpool 3film that fans have been waiting to hear for some time. For those who don’t know, this will beDeadpool’s first official film that will be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) storyline. This means that he will no longer have a separate world/storyline from theAvengers,Guardians of the Galaxy, and, of course,Spider-Man.
During an interview with ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis for the Phase Zero podcast,Feige dropped hints for Marvel Studios' many upcoming projects. These project updates includedBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever,Dominique Thorne’sIronheart, the release window forAvengers 5,and theSpider-Man: No Way Hometrailer.

Feige’s update on Deadpool 3was a confirmation that the writers (including Ryan Reynolds) are currently developing the script forthe film.“The script is in the works, and Ryan is working very hard on it with our writers as we speak," Feige said after confirming Marvel Studios hasa release window set for Deadpool 3. The news is confirmation for many fans who have, for the most part, been kept in the dark about the upcoming project. Despite all of the leaks and the current internet climate, Marvel does a good job when it comes to keeping secrets, especially in comparison to the recent DC movie leaks.
Reynolds recently predicted thatDeadpool 3will begin filming sometime next year, but with the ongoing pandemic and the lengthy writing process, fans should be patient in terms of counting the days until this movie’s release. Marvel has five projects releasing in 2023 that will be a part of phase four.Ant-Man and the Wasp: QuantumaniaandGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3are the only two with official titles, while the other three projects are listed as “untitled Marvel films.“Deadpoolcould potentially be one of the projects because one of the untitled films was moved from 2022 to the 2023 slot recently, but again there’s no confirmation.
One bright side to this is that Marvel has confirmed thatDeadpoolwould be retaining his current cinematic storyline, which means the previous two movies will not be retconned. As it stands,Deadpoolwill actually be the only Fox/Marvel property that would stay the same, though he will get slight adjustments for the MCU. No word as to whether this affects theX-Mencharacters who appeared inDeadpoolfilms, such as Colossus or Juggernaut, but the originalX-Menfilms won’t be carried into the MCU.
The most exciting aspect ofthe MCU fitting theX-Meninto its universeis finding a way to cast all of the characters with the best choice of actors/actresses. It’s a hard feat, to say the least. There are multiple X-Men characters to make use of, which is no comparison to the handful ofAvengersused in the first two films. However, it’s one step at a time, so right now fans can take comfort in knowing thatDeadpoolwill be making his way on over to the MCU family.
