While fans wait patiently for theoften delayedDead Island 2, publisher Deep Silver intended to hold them over withDead Island: Definitive Collectionfor PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, PS4 owners may be a little annoyed with how Deep Silver is handling that version of the game, as it’s been revealed to only include one of the remastered games on-disc, with the other games requiring download codes.
The Xbox One version ofDead Island: Definitive Collectionwill come with remastered versions of the firstDead IslandandDead Island: Riptideon-disc, along with a new game calledDead Island: Retro Revenge. PS4 owners, in the meantime, will only have the firstDead Islandincluded on theDefinitive Collectiondisc, and will have to download the other two games.
This may not seem like a big deal to everyone, but for gamers with slow Internet connections, it can make all the difference. Not only that, but it’s just odd that there’s such a discrepancy between the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, and it’s unclear why Deep Silver would make such a decision.
Deep Silver has not exactly been the most popular publisher as of late, and this decision is sure to draw the ire of PS4 gamers that lack fast Internet connections. The company has been criticized forremoving Yager fromDead Island 2development, and also for releasing lackluster games, likeHomefront: The Revolution, which released to far more negative reviews than its predecessor.
Deep Silver’s confusing decision to force PS4 owners to use download codes to get most of the content inDead Island: Definitive Collectionis yet another questionable choice the company has made as of late. It will be interesting to see if this revelation results in the PlayStation 4 selling poorer than the Xbox One version, or if it will have no major bearing on the game’s sales at all.
In the meantime, perhaps Deep Silver can get back in the good graces of fans come E3.Deep Silver is promising a big announcement for E3 2016, and maybe that announcement will be enough to help the publisher regain some of its lost respect. To that end, maybe Deep Silver’s big E3 announcement will be related toDead Island 2, and fans can once again look forward to a brand new game in the series.
Dead Island: Definitive Collectionwill be available on May 31st for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
