It has been said before that there is no new thing under the sun. This can definitely be attributed to video games, as most, if not all titles are either influenced by previously released products – whether consciously or unknowingly – or they contain similar ideas that remain prevalent or consistent within a genre. Speaking of this concept, many fans are already lobbing out comparisons betweenDays GoneandThe Last of Usto say that they’re the same, despite the former not even being released. This has led to John Garvin, the creative director of Sony and Bend Studio’s forthcoming action-adventure game, to state that it is not like Naughty Dog’s survival-horror title.

This much was declared during a recent interview between Garvin and Game Informer, in which theDays Gonecreative director was asked if he was “sick ofLast of Uscomparisons”, with Garvin simply saying, “Yes.” The interviewer then pressed the issue to say, “It is, kind of, a little like it, though, right?” to which Garvin replied, “No, except that it’s a third-person action-adventure game where you’re killing creatures that aren’t zombies.”

Undoubtedly, two of the major reasons as to why many have continued to compareDays GoneandThe Last of Usis due to the fact that, as Garvin pointed out, the games feature the ability for players to fight enemies that are essentially undead, and that both are set in lush, woodsy, overgrown environments. Interestingly enough, fans' direct juxtaposition of the titles has remained constant ever sinceSony filed a trademark a couple of years agoforDays Gone, with many having speculated it was related toTLOUin some capacity before even knowing what it was.

Bearing all of this in mind, it’s highly likely that fans will see at the very least see flashes ofThe Last of Usin certainDays Goneset pieces due to both of the titles existing within the post-apocalyptic genre, but that doesn’t mean the two games are interchangeable with one another. When one takes into considerationthe first hour of gameplaythat was released forDays Gone, it’s obvious that it is a far cry from whatThe Last of Usoffers in terms of story, mechanics, and design, especially since the Sony Bend title is open world. This being said, we will simply have to reserve definitive judgment onDays Goneuntil it comes out next year.

Days Goneis set to release at some point in 2019 for PlayStation 4.
