Updated on June 05, 2025, by Jake Fillery:The best covenant in Dark Souls 3 can provide players with a plethora of power that will increase the potential of their builds when fighting bosses and Ashes of Ember alike. Players will not only want to join every covenant for their achievements, rewards, and lore, but to complete the collection and amass an army of possibility. Whether players like PvP, PvE, or just helping those in need, each covenant in Dark Souls 3 has its pros and cons, and they can all be found below, as well as just how to get them.
Can You Join Multiple Covenants?
Players can join everyDark Souls 3covenant at once, but they can only have one activated at a time. There is no disadvantage to joining all covenants, as players will not receive a penalty when it comes to upgrading ranks for covenants. However, there are some instances where joining and upgrading certain covenants can impact storylines and quests with NPCs, such as joining and providing Rosaria’s Fingers with Pale Tongues, as this will impact Sirris' questline. Otherwise, all Dark Souls 3 covenants can be joined at once, meaning players will not have to backtrack to each covenant area just to rejoin.
How To Join Covenants
In order to join a specific covenant, players will need to first acquire their sigil. Then, they will want to head into their equipment screen and search for the covenant slot, found on the right of the inventory management screen. Once selected, players can pick and choose from their arsenal of covenants that they have found across the world, and then equip one as normal. To know that it has worked, players will see the chosen sigil in this slot, and on the top left of their health upon returning to the game. It’s worth noting that some covenants have automatic invading/defending mechanics, so be careful when selecting Rosaria’s Fingers, Way of Blue, Blue Sentinels, Watchdogs of Farron, Blades of the Darkmoon, Spears of the Church, and Aldrich Faithful.
9Way Of Blue
Perfect Starting Covenant For PvE
Way of Blue is an entry covenant that is very hard to miss. Players will pick this one up fairly early into their journey, and its sole objective is to provide players with protection from more experienced players who will act as bodyguards, but not against PvE players, but those PvP-hungry fiends who seek the demise of the host’s world. As part of this ancient accord with the Way of Blue, players call to aid those who want to root out evil.
How to Join
Across from theVordt of the Boreal Valley Bonfire, players canjourney into the Cathedral and talk to Emma, High Priestess of Lothric Castle. By talking to this character, they will receive a Small Lothric Banner. Talking to this character toexhaust her dialogue, they will receive the Way of Blue crest, which allows them to equip the Way of Blue covenant. Be warned, attacking and killing Emma has dire consequences, and will start theDancer of the Boreal Valley bossfight, but they can still get the Way of Blue covenant crest from her corpse.
8Watchdogs of Farron
Defensive PvP Covenant
To be a Watchdog of Farron, one must prioritize Farron Keep, and uphold this poisonous swamp, and infested land, above all else. Those who trespass into Farron Keep will be met with invaders, there to snuff out any life that may interrupt the sleeping serenity of Farron Keep’s warriors and Old Wolf of Farron. Watchdogs of Farron are more of a gimmick Covenant, as their area of protection is fairly small, and limited to protection in theareas of the Abyss Watchersand the Crystal Sage, which are surrounded by poison swamps.
Before killing the Abyss Watchers, players need to head to theRoad of Sacrifices areaand use theKeep Ruins Bonfire. From here, head down the path leading to the large doors, but take a right instead until they find a ladder by the castle wall. Goingup this ladder, players will find a new Bonfire, as well as Old Wolf Farron, to which they can pray, and receive the Watchdogs of Farron emblem. Equip it, and become one with the covenant.

7Blue Sentinels
Defend Those in Way of Blue
The Blue Sentinels work together with the Way of Blue, acting as their more experienced guardians. As a Blue Sentinel, players are tasked with protecting the Way of Blue by warding off dark spirits and killing any invaders that may cause harm to the host. Summons happen automatically, but long wait times may spell disaster for the host, and the fact that Blue Sentinels are powerless to help during boss fights, leaves much to be desired unless the player justenjoys countering PvP.
Uponreaching the Halfway Fortress Bonfire at the Road of Sacrifices, players willmeet Anri of Astora and Horace the Hushed.Speak to these characters, and exhaust their dialogue, toreceive the Blue Sentinels item. This crest, once equipped in the covenant slot, will allow players to represent the Blue Sentinels covenant.

Toobtain rank rewards, players need to talk to Company Captain Yorshka, who can be found byusing the Anor Londo Bonfire to take to the spinning tower elevator. Take the elevator down, and then from the top, face Anor Londo and walk off the ledge of the walkway to follow an invisible pathto reach a tower in the distance.
6Blades Of The Darkmoon
Lesser Blue Sentinels
Whilst interesting in a lore sense, the Blades of the Darkmoon are pretty useless. There is a nobility within this covenant, and one that seeks the decimation of dark spirits, and those that invade the helpless and innocent. Blades of the Darkmoon seek out evils and will be tasked with protecting Way of Blue covenant members, alongside their allies the Blue Sentinels, who also have the same goal.
To join the Blades of the Darkmoon covenant, players musttravel to Anor Londo and access the tower elevator and walk across the invisible pathwhich can be accessed from the bottom of the rotating platform if the elevator is “up”, and from the top of the rotating platform if the elevator is “down”. Once across, players will walk into a tower where they canpledge allegiance to Company Captain Yorshka.

5Spears of the Church
Become The Boss Fight
Much like the Old Monk boss fight fromDemon’s Souls, players can become the boss fight against other players and take the role of a loyal spirit, summoned by the Judicator to destroy any and all Disturbers of Sleep that may threaten to wake Princess Filianore. As a Spear of the Church, the player must protect this slumbering kingdom against trespassers and threats.
Players need todefeat Darkeater Midirin The Ringed City DLC to receive the Spears of the Church covenant badge. To find Darkeater Midir, follow these steps:

4Rosaria’s Fingers
PvP Focused Covenant
Rosaria’s Fingers is a despicable covenant for despicable players. The sole objective of this covenant is to invade and destroy, killing all hosts and allied players with the host to provide the mistress Rosaria with the removed tongue of fallen victims. It’s brutal, and pledging to Rosaria’s Fingers means that players have an act for the sinister, and enjoy PvP to comfort their voiceless goddess.
The steps listed below will help thosewith the Cathedral of the Deepshortcut find Rosaria’s covenant:

Discover Rosaria’s Fingers covenant.
3Mound-Maker
This covenant is shackled by the Gods, and players can equip this covenant item to join the Mad Phantoms and unleash utter chaos into this dying world. Led by Holy Knight Hodrick, the goal of the Mound-Makers is simple: kill all and add to their mounds. Whether that’s through killing enemies, invaders, hosts, or co-operators, in the eyes of the Mound-Makers, killing provides yet another shackle, and another divine property to be proud of.
Before defeating the Curse-Rotted Greatwood, head to theUndead Settlement Bonfire. Venture through the house and take a right when facing the burning tree. Across the bridge and following up to the right of the barn, players can find awooden pathway, to which they will locate and talk to a Cage Spider NPC. Beside this NPC is a ladder.Climb it and head forward to find a large enemy with a cage on its back. Upon approaching the enemy from behind, players can examine the cage and step in, leading them to the Mound-Maker leader, Holy Knight Hodrick. Talk with this NPC to receive the Mound-Maker covenant item. (Hodrick will give players a Homeward Bone, so they can leave if they exhaust his dialogue.)

Return to the Pit of Hollows after defeating the Curse-Rotted Greatwoodto find Horace dead, and use the altar to exchange covenant offerings for rewards.
2Aldrich Faithful
PvP Defenders of Anor Londo
Through wielding the holy symbol of the Cathedral of the Deep, those who belong to this covenant are proud members of the Aldrich Faithful and will do everything they can toprotect Aldrich, Devourer of Gods, and stop them from being disturbed. These loyal spirits are summoned to Anor Londo to defend their master against those who seek to destroy this Lord of Cinder, adding extra challenge to this already compelling and hard-navigating area in the ruins of the former renowned Anor Londo.
From the Pontiff Sulyvahn Bonfire, head through the large doors to the left up the stairs. Take an immediate run to the cathedral ahead, and then before proceeding up the stairs found inside this building, go to the left of them and hit the wall to reveal a hidden area. Take the ladder down and defeat two of Sulyvahn’s Beasts to unlock a new bonfire. To the northwest of this room, players will find Archdeacon McDonnell. Upon examining the corpse, players can find the Aldrich Faithful covenant item and the altar to which they will give their offerings.

1Warrior Of Sunlight
Praise The Sun Covenant
Becoming a Warrior of Sunlight is no easy task, and those who are devoted enough to enter this journey will be blessed with the power and brilliance of the sun. To those who are a Warrior of Sunlight, jolly cooperation is the primary focus, and they will follow the ways of their classic leader of old, Solaire of Astoria by placing down their Summon Sign, which will in turn make them a golden apparition within the world that they are helping. The core goal of a Warrior of Sunlight is to aid other players, with the ultimate goal of defeating bosses, and invaders, and guiding those through to safety.
How To Join

Nearest to thepot of Estus Soup, players will find the Warrior of Sunlight item. Equipping this emblem into the Covenant slot will make players join the Warriors of Sunlight.
To enhance rewards from the Warriors of Sunlight covenant, players need tohead to the Sunlight Altar located in Lothric Castle. The easiest way to get here is todefeat the Dragonslayer Armour boss, and from the bonfire, turn around head through the archway, and take the route to the right to find a ladder.Climb this ladder, take an immediate right across the rooftops, down the other ladder (past the three guards), tofind a walkway with a powerful knight, who protects the Sunlight Altar.
