WhenCyberpunk 2077developer CD Projekt RED released thefirst gameplay demo, fans got their first look at the game’s weapons systems. However, while the demo was just over 48 minutes long it merely scratched the surface of what players can expect fromCyberpunk 2077’s combat.

During an interview with a French publication (via Google Translate), lead cinematic animator Maciej Pietras offered a little more insight on whatCyberpunk 2077will offer. Pietras revealed that there are several different weapon types and combat systems and that these will be defined by the character class that people choose and the skills that players choose to upgrade.

The animator added that there are advantages of using a weapon “depending on the increase of the skill chosen for your avatar.” Thankfully, thecharacter class system is fluidand allows people to pick a different one later on. This should mean that players aren’t locked out of those weapon advantages (throughout the entire game, at least).

Pietras also detailed some of the different weapon types and their abilities. There are the powerful weapons with boosts that offer ricocheting bullets, smart weapons with auto lock (honing bullets), and melee weapons such as the mantis blades or the katana which weren’t featured in the gameplay demo.

The animator explained that the mantis blades allow players to not only kill enemies in hand-to-hand combat, but players will even be able to climb walls with them. CD Projekt RED has previously detailed the verticality of Night City, where the game is set, includingskyscrapers full of activitiesfor players to complete. It sounds as though the mantis blades will help players take full advantage of height.

Additionally, Pietras referred to the combat system as being “systematic,” meaning that players will be able to choose and use weapons according to the situation that their character is in. The animator declined to share more about this, though, as it is “too early to talk about it” but stressed that there are several ways to take down enemies in the game.

While this fresh information aboutCyberpunk 2077’s combat systems is interesting, for fans, it may raise more questions than answers. It just highlights the fact that there is a huge amount of things that fans don’t yet know about the game and that therelease dateisn’t the only thing worth speculating about.
