According to a user on Reddit, MCEdit_Scripts, these tunnels are accomplished through a computer-assisted operation that follows a waveform to place blocks and then clears out the tunnels by plowing a sphere that deletes blocks through the area. Essentially, this means that the player sets up a program to place patterns throughout theMinecraftmap in a random order and then bore tunnels out with a giant modded drill of sorts.

The result of all of this level editing and modding is a series of tunnels that have almost spectral patterns to them as the player glides through the long empty halls. Thanks in part to the many colors of blocks that are placed with the waveform, these tunnels have an appearance that can’t be found anywhere else in the game. Even locations likeMinecraft’s new Ancient Citiesor the previously updated Nether don’t have the type of unreal visual effect that this player’s tunnels have.
While the development of these tunnels is currently a work in progress by the player, it could make for a strong inspiration for afutureMinecraftmodand even updates down the line. Beyond modding or using this process to build new biomes, fans commenting on the original post also mentioned a particular resemblance in the tunnels to the Time Vortex fromDoctor Who. So one initial use for this tool could be as the starting point or transition effect in a mod or adventure pack dedicated to BBC’s time-traveling series.
This type of world sculpting could become an incredible tool, both in officially licensed content as well as among the modding community as it continues to expand apart from Mojang’s direction for the base game.
