Charlie Cox’sDaredevil: Born Againis one of the most anticipated Disney Plus shows out there. The series will see the return of Cox as Matt Murdock as he stars in his own show once again, and Cox revealed he had one hope for the show: slightly more use of CGI.
Cox was first seen in the role in Netflix’sDaredevil. That series lasted for three seasons, but Daredevil and the other Netflix Marvel shows were cancelled. Fans were disappointed, particularly since Cox was a fan favorite. Luckily, he was recently brought back to the MCU in small roles forSpider-Man: No Way HomeandShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law(whereDaredevil had an outing that could serve as a signof things to come) and a new series,Daredevil: Born Again, was announced some months ago.

While speaking withGQ, Cox was asked if there was anything he was excited to do in the newDaredevilseries that he could not do in the Netflix series. Cox played coy, stating that if he said anything too detailed, it would become a news story, but did say this. “I guess what I would say is: hopefully, on the Disney+ show, Born Again, we will be able to use—and I hope that we do it sparingly, I believe it should be used sparingly—but we’ll hopefully be able to use a tiny bit more CGI in the action sequences.” Cox iterated that he felt the CGI didn’t need to be over the top, “Just to emphasize his gymnastic abilities that have been basically impossible to do. It really should be sparingly. I don’t believe there should be complete action sequences that are almost all computer-generated. Most of it should be stunt-coordinated and done by a stunt performer and myself or the other actors in a similar fashion to what we did before.”
Cox also seemed concerned with the safety of stunts for some of the more dangerous activities Daredevil does, which could be accomplished by CGI. “We can bookend it with these little moments. With the batons particularly, we could never really do anything in our show where Daredevil ricochets a baton off a wall and takes someone out because you can’t physically do that," he said. “It’s not safe and not possible…just these little moments would elevate scenes and be something that makes the show even more recognizable to the comics. That’s the stuff that happens almost episodically when you read the issues.”
Cox is gracious and guarded with his words as always. His explanation is not unreasonable: while stunt work is a valuable and absolutely vital part of the industry, it cannot always engage in acts that are physically impossible in this world, but which would be possible in a world with super-powered people. Andstunt performers should not have to risk their health, lives, and career to get a shot that could easily be captured in a safer way.
Still, despite this one hope, details ofDaredevil: Born Againremain elusive. The plot of the series is being kept tightly under wraps - except for the fact that its eighteen episodes will be split into three six-episode arcs - as is the casting for the series. While Echo and Kingpin have been confirmed, it has yet to be confirmed that the actors fromthe NetflixDaredevilserieswill also be returning for their respective roles. It’s also not yet known ifDaredevil: Born Againwill entirely embrace the Netflix continuity or take a broad strokes approach to things.
Daredevil: Born Againis scheduled to release on Disney Plus in the spring of 2024.
