Since the release ofElden Ring, the newest title fromSoulsandBloodbornecreators FromSoftware, players have been sharing their experiences with the game, whether they be great or not so great. Since theinitial announcement ofElden Ringat E3 2019, the game had been hotly anticipated by fans for a new experience from the developer.
Elden Ringfollows the story of the Tarnished, exiles of the realm known as the Land Between, who are summoned to search for the Great Runes, scattered shards of an ancient relic known as the Elden Ring, which held power over the land. Much of the game’s world-building waswritten in collaboration with George R.R. Martin, the author ofA Song of Ice and Fire, who has since praised the game and how FromSoft was able to translate his work into the final product.

A staple of many games from FromSoft’s library is the exceptional difficulty found within each title. Games likeDemon SoulsandSekiro: Shadows Die Twiceare infamous for having boss encounters that test a player’s abilities to the fullest. Hidetaka Miyazaki, director ofElden Ring, has addressed how the game tries to change that perception, but clips such as following show that things can still get quite difficult very fast.
On theElden Ringsubreddit, user madnessnewb showcased a clip of their encounter on a castle wall with one of the various ghostly enemies thatElden Ringhas to offer. The encounter appeared to be simple enough, as they dispatch them with ease, but the success caused them to topple off the castle wall back down to the ground. And if that’s not enough, they were then quickly swarmed by other adversaries, which soon resulted in the classic “You Died” screen.
It’s certainly a chaotic display that shows how players constantly need to be on their toes for any specific encounter throughout the game. The user appears to take the loss in stride, however, unlike other players such as Dr Disrespect orHasanAbi who have rage-quit overElden Ringand the several difficult enemy encounters thrown their way.
In spite of how challenging the game is, that hasn’t stoppedElden Ringfrom receiving rave reviewsacross the board for its stunning world and art design, and the game’s overall improvement over the typical FromSoft gameplay formula. While some may still highlight the painful experiences with the many enemies in the game, it will still create fun memories that players will remember for some time.
Elden Ringis now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
