Updated on July 30, 2025, by Ritwik Mitra:Chainsaw Man is one of the wildest manga anyone can read, and it’s easy to see why this series is so eccentric when fans delve into the mind of Tatsuki Fujimoto, the man who breathed life into this series and is taking it in some wild and interesting directions. The characters in this series are just one of the many cogs that make the machine purr, and it’s easy to see why so many people can’t get enough of Chainsaw Man once they get invested in the personal stories and character development of these personalities.

1Denji
A Man Down On His Luck Who Becomes The Chainsaw Devil
Chainsaw Man’s protagonist,Denji, starts the series as a teenager living in poverty. He sells important organs, eats cigarettes, and hunts devilswith his chainsaw dog, Pochita, to pay off the debt he inherited from his father. That is until Pochita merges with him at the moment of his death in order to help him achieve his dreams of having a normal life.
From that point, he becomes the titular ‘Chainsaw Man’ and is quickly hired by the Public Safety Bureau. Manga readers will be familiar with Denji’s birthday, as a pivotal scene happens on this day at the end of part one.

2Pochita
Denji’s Lovable Pooch Who Fuses With His Master To Save His Life
Pochita takes the form of a cute little dog until he merges with Denji, after which the viewers don’t really get to see much of him! Despite this,he’s a pivotal part ofChainsaw Man. Because of the care and love Denji showed him as a dog, he chooses to merge with Denji at the moment of his death, creating a contract that will allow Denji to fulfill his dream of having a normal life.
In his dog form, he’s a small/medium pooch light enough to be wielded as a chainsaw.

3Makima
The Control Devil Who Manipulates The People Around Her
Makima isa fascinating character with a dubious nature. As a professional devil hunter, she’s the one who recruits Denji to the Public Safety Bureau, promising to change his destitute life. Even fans of the anime only will have questions about her motives - as she comes across as very manipulative and blunt.
Manga readers, however, already have that confirmation. Makima is the control devil, and her nature is to manipulate, deceive, and control. The fact that she sexually manipulates her underlings and literal teenagers is just the surface.
4Power
A Devil Who Forms A Bond With A Cat And Slowly Warms Up To Other Humans
Power is another devil working for the Public Safety Bureau as a devil hunter.A fan-favorite, Poweris greedy, self-motivated, and altogether childish. That being said, she’s an incredibly powerful devil who enjoys the thrill of a fight and showing off her skills. Why is she a fan favorite? Well, all of these traits make her extremely fun to watch.
While she is extremely selfish, she has a lot of compassion for her pet cat ‘Meowy.’ Initially rescuing the cat to fatten up and eat, she became fond of the animal and considers her a lifelong companion. After this, she appears to open up more to humans. She clearly considers Aki and Denji to be close friends and demonstrates this by literally dying for Denji at the end of part one.
5Aki Hayakawa
A Fascinating Character With A Stoic Personality And A Tragic Backstory
Aki is introduced as someone who doesn’t particularly like Denji, and while it’s true that their personalities clash, they end up becoming close friends.Quiet and stoic Akitakes on the role of caretaker for both Denji and Power by letting them move into his apartment on Makima’s orders.
Fans love Aki’s strong and silent personality, and the glimpses into his personal life shown by the Manga and anime are fascinating. He also ranked number one in the second popularity poll held, taking the top spot over the protagonist himself.
6Himeno
Shares A Unique Bond With Aki And Is Central To One Of The Most Gross-Out Moments In The Series
Himeno’s appearance in the series makes for one ofChainsaw Man’s most memorable moments. From the very first moment she makes her presence known on-screen, fans know they’re in for a wild ride.
The wildest moment comes when she kisses Denji only to puke in his mouth, followed by an intimate scene that leads to a unique friendship with the protagonist. Unfortunately, her contract with the Ghost Devil leads to an emotional moment where she sacrifices her very being to stop Aki from shortening his lifespan.
7Kobeni Higashiyama
A Cowardly Devil Hunter Who Can Be A Bit Too Irritating At Times
There are many beloved characters inChainsaw Man, but one character that fans universally hate is Kobeni. She’s a coward who can’t stop moaning and complaining no matter what she faces, which can make it hard to like her character.
Still, her unknown power makes her pretty interesting, even if she hasn’t shown her strength in the series as of yet. Hopefully, she can redeem her character instead of constantly crying in the face of adversity time and time again.
8Hirokazu Arai
A New Devil Hunter With A Strong Sense Of Duty And Morals
Arai is one of the newer Devil Hunters in Makima’s team who’s instantly jealous of Denji’s closeness to a person he admires. His strong sense of duty can make him a bit too straight-laced for fans to like, but there’s more to this character than what meets the eye.
His nightmarish contract with the Fox Devil let him take the help of this creature by feeding bits and pieces of his body. It’s a pretty harrowing contract that is par on the course of whatChainsaw Manis all about.
