Toward the end of the Crossing Mountains quest, Chained Echoes players must fight a delusion-creating devil, the Dream Eater. Unlike previous boss fights, this one has different phases that might baffle beginners. In fact, the encounter is a four-phase marathon that might frustrate evenhardcore turn-based combatlovers.

But as with any strong foe in Chained Echoes, the Dream Eater comes with his weaknesses. He can’t stand fire combos and is vulnerable to most characters’ Ultra Moves. If the devil of the mountain has been a pain in the thumb, use this quick—and practical—guide to beat him for good.

Dream Eater Boss Fight Guide

To beat Dream Eater, use Kylian’s Leg Aim to slow him down and remove his defense with Glenn’s Armor Break. When he’s debuffed, combine Oil Slash with Fire Thrust to inflict Weakness damage and finish him with Glenn’s Ultra Move.

Note that Dream Eater’s boss fight has four phases, and he summons two orbs during the last three. Here’s how to defeat him at every level.

Best Moves for Beating Dream Eater

Since Dream Eater attacks only one character at a time, a combination of Glenn’s Armor Break, Kylian’s Leg Aim, Robb’s Pandemic, Lenne’s Fire Thrust, and Sienna’s X-Slash arethe best moves for beating him. But players who have the game on higher difficulties would also benefit from Victor’s Shield Mazurka and Healing properties.

If Dream Eater seems unbeatable, use SP to level upor upgrade weapons. Learning new skills is also a good idea because it advances the moves. But if all else fails, lower the game’s difficultyin the Accessibility menu. It makes Dream Eater less aggressive.

Every Dream Eater Move and Its Counter

Dream Eater has five moves: Basic Physical Attack, Twisting Visions, Summoning Orbs, Pitch Black Darkness, and Covered in Shadows. Lucky forBeginnerChained Echoesplayers, all these moves have counters listed below.

Pitch Black Darkness

Shield Mazurka

Note that Twisting Visions has no counter because it’s an illusion creator—it does not inflict any damage.
