Fans have been waiting for Capcom to release newDevil May CryandDragon’s Dogmagames for years, andDevil May Cry 5will finally launch next month. But unfortunately for those holding out hope forDragon’s Dogma 2, it seems that game was put aside so Capcom couldfocus onDevil May Cry 5’s developmentinstead.

As explained byDevil May Cry 5game director Hideaki Itsuno, he was given the choice between starting development onDevil May Cry 5orDragon’s Dogma 2, and as we now know, he ultimately chose to work onDevil May Cry 5. While this is good news for fans excited to see demon slayer Dante make his triumphant return to gaming, it no doubt has to come as a disappointment to those who have been waiting forDragon’s Dogma 2since the first game released in 2012.

On the bright side, this could be an indication that Itsuno will start work onDragon’s Dogma 2afterDevil May Cry 5finishes development. Itsuno did indicate that he has ideas forDragon’s Dogma 2and that he is already preparing to start development on his next project, though he stopped short of revealing whetherDragon’s Dogma 2is his next game or not.

Of course, it’s also possible thatDragon’s Dogma 2is being worked on by other developers at Capcom besides Itsuno. Capcom could have moved forward with development on the game after Itsuno chose to makeDevil May Cry 5instead, though that is just speculation at this time. And since Itsuno directed the originalDragon’s Dogma, Capcom may be hesitant to give the project over to another developer.

In the meantime, it’s worth pointing out thatDragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisenis coming to the Nintendo Switchlater this year.Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisenis the enhanced version of the originalDragon’s Dogma, and if it sells well on the Switch, it could give Capcom more incentive to move forward with a proper sequel.

Whether or not we ever seeDragon’s Dogma 2remains to be seen, however, and fans will just have to wait and see what Itsuno decides to make next.

Dragon’s Dogma 2is not announced and may not even be in active development.
