Microsoft’s recent Inside Xbox might have been less successful than the company had hoped, however, it did facilitate the reveal of a number of major new games launching on the Xbox Series X. Several of these have since turned out to be console exclusive to the Xbox brand, with the likes ofScornandThe Mediumcoming only to the PC and Xboxwhen they debut in the near future.
Another of the games that made its grand reveal at the event has since also turned out to be an Xbox console exclusive, withCall of the Seaallegedly only coming to PC, Xbox One, andXbox Series X. Confirmed to be released before the end of the year, it seems the announcement of the game’s exclusive status has come alongside some new information about the game, including its influences and story.

According to Tatiana Delgado, the game director ofCall of the Seaand co-founder of its development studio Out of the Blue, the title “is a story-driven game that lets you take on the role of Norah, a woman who has crossed an ocean in a desperate search of her husband, who has gone missing on an expedition.” Supposedly, it will be a “love letter to the [adventure game] genre,” and has been heavily inspired by the works of H.P Lovecraft. However, Delgado was quick to point out that “Call of the Seais not a horror game… But you might say that we are inspired by thewayLovecraft tells some of his stories.” With releases likeThe Sinking CityandCall of Cthulhubringing H.P Lovecraft’s worlds to the video game space recently, it’s clearCall of the Seais releasing at a time where there’s a demand for more games that utilize the writer’s distinct style.
Alongside this description and release information, Delgado also reveals that the game will be available on Game Pass at launch, meaning yet another major title will be hitting the incredibly popular service. With games likeRed Dead Redemption 2recently releasing on Game Pass, it’s clear the service is growing into one of the most gamer-friendly subscriptions currently on the market, especially with titles likeCall of the Seamaking their way there at launch.
Alongside the announcement ofCall of the Sea, Microsoft’s recent Inside Xbox revealed the existence of a number of exciting third party games.Assassin’s Creed Valhallaappeared at the event, while a sci-fi shooter namedBright Memory: Infinitewas revealed and a console release ofScornwas announced.
