Though posting lower numbers than previous titles,Call of Duty: Vanguardstill took home the title of best-selling game of 2021, showing the franchise is still going strong. With Season 2 for bothCall of Duty: VanguardandWarzonestarting recently and updates planned for the future, it appears support for the title is also continuing.
These future updates will come in the form of patches or DLC like theCall of Duty: VanguardWelgun SMG, providing the game with fresh content through new weapons, buffs, nerfs, and potentially new maps. Perhaps the biggest game-changer among these is added guns, as new guns can drastically change the competitive multiplayer meta.

Recently, a new light machine gun was added to the game as DLC. Called the Whitley, the gun has a slow rate of fire but very high damage and little to no recoil, making for a constant stream of accurate fire comparable to aCall of Duty: Warzoneunlimited ammo Death Machine. Reddit user Nezev3 shows off the capability of the new gun, cutting down five enemies in the span of a few seconds.
Nezev3 questioned whether the testers checknewCall of Duty: Vanguardcontent, as they felt the gun was too powerful to have been released in its current form. Though a single sample is nothing to go by, the Whitley’s lack of recoil and damage output do seem very strong. Another user reflected this sentiment, jokingly saying Nezev3 was wrong to assume the testers even looked at the gun before release.
Though they were joking, the players do raise some issues concerning content being released into the game without proper testing. For example, the classic Zombies Ray Gun weapon was recently added into the game, and theCall of Duty: VanguardRay Gun upset fansfor multiple reasons, such as low damage output. Along with guns that don’t see proper testing, the game includes plenty of bugs, with new ones being discovered daily.
With new weapons being strangely weak or strong upon release, as well as detrimental bugs such as theCall of Duty: Vanguardmoving tree glitch, the potential strength of the Whitley reflects overarching player frustrations about the game’s issues. However, with a new Zombies roadmap and plenty of planned updates for the future, there is still hope that Sledgehammer Games will be able to fully right the ship and turnCall of Duty: Vanguardinto a high-quality, highly-rated game rather than just a commercial success.
Call of Duty: Vanguardis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
