Update 12/25: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has officially added theShoot the Ship playlist. Original story follows.
There is reason to believe thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfareis going to add a playlist that has been hotly anticipated since the launch of the game in October. A response to a fan suggestion on Reddit from multiple Infinity Ward devs teases a new mode thatfans really want.
Since launch, the developers have been adding more maps, modes, and playlists toModern Warfare. Recently, players were graced with a remake of classicCall of Duty 4maps whenthe game added Shipment and Vacant. Shipment is specifically a very tight map similar to Shoot House, a map that launched with the game. These types of maps have been a favorite of fans since the originalModern Warfare. So obviously players wanted a way to play both these maps in the same playlist, one that would focus on tight spaces and frenetic combat scenarios.

The Infinity Ward post was a response in a thread that was detailing a Chaos 24/7 playlist, a playlist of smaller maps where players could focus on frantic, fast-paced action. Ever since the addition of Shipment, and even from launch, players have been asking for a multiplayer playlist that focuses on these smaller, more chaotic maps. In response to this post,Modern Warfaredev Joe Cecot wrote the cryptic response “Shoot the Ship.”
It doesn’t take a dedicatedCall of Dutyplayer to realize this coded message is a reference to both the Shipment andShoot Housemap names. This implies that the Chaos 24/7 mode is coming toModern Warfarein the near future. But what about the other playlist that the original Reddit post suggested?
The post also requested a Callback 24/7 playlist, which according to the post would feature “remake maps, including any future ones, in a mosh pit playlist.” Unlike the response suggesting Chaos 24/7 was coming, nothing from Infinity Ward suggests that a playlist focusing on classic maps is coming. Unfortunately for fans this means they may have to wait a while for that feature to be added.
Modern Warfarehas added sometroubling features and itemsthat haven’t always been exactly what the fans expected. Hopefully the addition of the much requested Chaos playlist can help Infinity Ward gain some good will with the community.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
