Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2finally hits a major milestone in Twitch viewership for March 2023, achieving a feat that hasn’t happened in three years. The discourse surrounding the game lately seems to be more on the pessimistic side of things as players are growing tired of the many issues including various bugs, movement mechanics, and other issues. In fact, just recently, anew bug has been discovered byModern Warfare 2players where Semtex explosives no longer 1 shot an enemy when stuck to them as it has previously.
All of these issues have led to a frustrated player base, and even pushing some to outright quit. In fact, theplayer base forCall of Duty Warzone 2has been declining as of late, as both pros, streamers, and regular players have seemingly been moving on to other games, whether that be Apex Legends or something else outside of the Battle Royale genre entirely. While the Twitch numbers remain high when compared to most games,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2hit a new milestone during the month of March.

According to a Twitch viewership tracked called SullyGnome,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2achieved 24,970,051 hours of watch time during March 2023, which is up 19%. Surprisingly, Warzone 2 came in nearly 3 million hours shy of that mark at a total of 21,969,596, making this the first time since March 2020 that the mainCall of Dutygame has overtaken the battle royale in terms of monthly views. What isn’t yet known is if this will be a trend going forward, or perhaps a one-off anomaly.
One thing that is clear with this data is that the multiplayer side ofModern Warfare 2got a major boost in March thanks toCall of Duty League. Major 3 was a massive success for the Esport as it not only smashed viewership records, but it went on to become the most watched event in Call of Duty League history. The main Twitch channel, as well as viewing parties hosted by major streamers, certainly helped the event reach well over 3 million viewers.
What likely won’t change anytime soon is how vocal theCall of Dutycommunity is and will likely continue to be going forward. The fanbase certainly has no shortage of opinions or ideas on how they’d like to improve the experience and on occasion, the developers seem to agree. Late last month, newchanges were made toCall of Duty’s already popular Ranked Modeby swapping out undesired maps and modes with ones that fans were hoping to see instead.
