Ever sinceCall of Duty 2launched in 2005, there has been a new main seriesCall of Dutygame released every single fall without fail. However, there are some rumblings that the upcomingCall of Duty 2020may break that tradition, as an industry insider believes that the game may end up being delayed.
Tom Henderson, a Twitter user known for accurateCall of Dutyleaks, recently commented on the rumors that theCall of Duty 2020reveal isn’t happening soon. Henderson says that he is “concerned” by this revelation, and that he’s heard that the game is a mess. Henderson concluded by stating that he is 50/50 on whether or not Activision ends up delayingCall of Duty 2020, which would potentially make it miss the holiday release window depending on how far it’s pushed back.

Compared to otherCall of Dutygames,Call of Duty 2020has reportedly had a rough time in development. The game was originally being developed by Sledgehammer Games, but then reports surfaced that Sledgehammer and assisting studio Raven Software were butting heads. Supposedly, this promptedActivision to put Treyarch in charge ofCall of Duty 2020, despite the fact that the studio had just launchedCall of Duty: Black Ops 4andCoDgames usually have three year development cycles.
Adding Treyarch to the project has madeCall of Duty 2020change course a bit. The game is apparently retaining aCold War settingthat was already decided on, but it will now use theBlack Opssubtitle. In fact, a newCall of Duty: Black Opslogo has leaked online, lending credibility to those rumors. But despite Treyarch retaining at least some of the work that was done by Sledgehammer and Raven, making the studio push out a newCall of Dutyan entire year faster than usual is undoubtedly going to lead to some issues.
Activisiondelaying the newCall of Dutywould likely upset shareholders and hurt the company’s bottom line, so it seems unlikely. If anything, it may releaseCall of Duty 2020in a slightly unfinished state, and then add more content to the game post-launch to get it closer to a complete experience. However, that’s just speculation. Activision would likely do just about anything to avoid delayingCall of Duty 2020, so fans are more likely than not going to get the game this year regardless.
Reports indicate thatCall of Duty 2020will have Zombies, the standardCall of Dutymultiplayer experience, and a story campaign, so it should provide quite a bit of content if it reaches its development goals. Hopefully a properCall of Duty 2020reveal comes sooner rather than later to put fans' minds at ease.
Call of Duty 2020is rumored to be in development for unspecified platforms.
