Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is going all in on a Symbiote-corrupted Peter Parker, and with that approach comes a lot of intriguing storytelling opportunities. Kraven’s presence in the story has fans wondering if Insomniac will put its own spin on the legendaryKraven’s Last Huntcomic, while some are theorizing thatPeter could become Venominstead of another host like Eddie Brock or Harry Osborn. However, one of the most intriguing characters in the game could be Black Cat.

While Miles Morales will likely be put in the tricky position of fighting his mentor duringMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Mary Jane Watson will probably have to be the one who gets through to her boyfriend, Black Cat could have a few reactions to the new and improved Spider-Man. Either response to the wall-crawler and his Symbiote suit would make for a memorable story, though one is more likely based on how Insomniac has written its version of the charismatic thief.

Symbiote Spider-Man and Black Cat’s Relationship Can Go in Two Very Different Directions

The first direction Insomniac Games can go in would work better with a more villainous Black Cat, making it less likely. Still, it is fun to think about. In this scenario, perhapsBlack Catwill see the more violent Peter and approve of the change, and she could then attempt to reignite the spark and restore their romance. Considering that Peter is not himself when wearing the black suit, he could be on board with the idea.

Having Peter cheat on Mary Jane would be a bold decision, especially with the current state of Spider-Man stories. Peter and MJ experienced a heartbreaking split in the MCU, and far worse is the current state of their relationship in the comics. Comic readers have been wanting Peter and MJ to get back together for a long time now, but withPaul’s debut in the Spider-Man comics, there is no telling when that reunion will take place. As such, seeing Peter and MJ in a happy relationship at this point is refreshing, so Insomniac may want to avoid splitting them up. Players could also struggle to forgive Peter if he cheats on the love of his life, making him irredeemable.

Insomniac’s Black Cat is also more of an anti-hero following her role in theThe City That Never Sleeps DLC, so it would make sense if she saw the change in Peter and instead expressed concern. After all, Felicia is familiar with the upbeat do-gooder, and it is that version of the hero that she loved teasing and fooling around with. When she sees how aggressive he is due to the Symbiote, she may try to talk some sense into him, a moment that could result in a fight.

This would be a fresh take on the clashes between the two since Black Cat would be in the right, as all signs point to Peter becoming a menace that has to be stopped. The boss battle could see him lashing out and hurting Felicia, and maybe even accidentally killing her if Insomniac is willing to take a big risk with the sequel’s story. Regardless of how it plays out, making Black Cat an enemy purely because ofhow villainous Peter is becomingfeels like a good direction to go in.

Regardless of whether Insomniac wants to have Black Cat encourage Peter or stand against him, it is exciting that she is returning. Even though the comics have become extremely controversial lately, she has remained a strong point, and her scenes in the first game’s DLC were excellent. Fans love nearly every version of Black Cat, so there is undoubtedly going to be a lot of interest in seeing her interact with a darker version ofYuri Lowenthal’s Peter Parker.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is scheduled to release in Fall 2023 for PS5.
