Gloria Victissetsnations against each otherin large pitched PvP battles. Players will naturally want to have every advantage possible when throwing themselves into the fray, and bringing the right weapon can have a major impact on how combat plays out.
The game features three main armor classes – light, medium, and heavy – which all have their own strengths and weaknesses. To complement these, there are also tons of weapons that perform differently against different armors. It can be hard for players to know which weapons are best to equip, especially when new to the game. Here are the most useful weapon types inGloria Victis, ranked.

10Dagger
Aslightly unusual armamentto bring to a field battle, daggers have the shortest range of all weapon types, but make up for it with a very fast swing speed. Attacking at full power can cause bleeding, but only when using the Marksman ability.
Best wielded against lightly armored opponents, daggers can often draw first blood due to their quick attacks. Overall, they’re not all that powerful, but can be used to good effect in close-quarters combat.

9Lance
A rather situational weapon, lances perform poorly when fighting on foot, but their length makes them ideal for engagements with cavalry. By pressing the throw key, players can brace this weapon and deal devastating damage to any mounted opponents that are attempting to charge.
Lances can also be used on horseback, with players able to couch them for jousting or to deal extra damage. Players should use them to stab, as attacking from any other direction deals half damage and is very slow, making it essentially a death sentence.

8Axe
The ultimate line-breaker, axes are particularly effective against shields and doors. This is reflected by the fact they deal extra damage when attacking overhead, with the axe coming crashing down and splintering anything in its path.

The game features both one-handed and two-handed axes. The one-handed version grants the extra benefit of carrying a shield, whereas the latter axe has a longer range. As they are primarily used to destroy shields, the two-handed axe may be the better choice, as it often allows the player tostrike from a range that beats most one-handed weapons.
7Macepick
Dealing powerful bludgeon damage, Macepicks are unique in that they’re the only one-handed option that can effectively deal with heavy armor. This allows the player to carry a shield at the same time, making it far easier to block strikes and deflect arrows.
Macepicks are an ideal option fornewer players who might be strugglingwith heavily armored opponents. It allows them to safely close the gap and deal some damage of their own.

6Sword
Astaple of medieval combat, swords are most effective against light and medium armor. They cause bleeding damage when stabbing an opponent, meaning players can go on the defensive and wait for their enemy to bleed out if already on low health.
Like axes, swords have both a one-handed and two-handed version. The latter option has the fastest swing speed of all two-handed weapons, making it ideal in a duel against other two-handed arms. That being said, it also has the shortest range, so it may be better to stick to a one-handed sword with a shield for added protection.

5Halberd
One of the longer two-handed weapons, Halberds are somewhere in-between a spear and an axe, having decent armor penetration and being able to cause both slash and pierce damage. They are most effective against light armor.

Halberds are also the longest weapon capable of cleave attacks, cutting through multiple opponents in one swing. This makes it a powerful weapon to use in open, frontline combat.
4Spear
Simple but effective, spears have proven useful throughout historyand are no different inGloria Victis. Like other weapons, they have both a one-handed and two-handed option, but the former is the better choice.
Not only does the one-handed version allow the player to carry a shield, but it also has a higher armor penetration at 10%, and has the highest range of all one-handed weapons. Meanwhile, many of the two-handed spear’s functions are fulfilled by other weapons. The spear’s main downside is that it cannot be used to good effect when slashing; it must instead be utilized in stabbing attacks.

3Guisarme
A versatile pole weapon, the Guisarme is essentially a better two-handed spear. Like its inferior, it has 5% stab armor penetration, and is best used against medium armor. Where it differs is the way that Guisarmes can be used to swing as well as stab.
Their hook allows them to deal pierce damage when swung from any direction, meaning they are not as restrictive as spears. This results in all the benefits of the spear, such as increased range, without any of the downsides.

2Bow
There are three different types of bows inGloria Victis: Simple, Reflex, and Long. Each type has slightly different stats and ammo capacity. Longbows carry fewer arrows in a quiver and have a lower fire rate, but compensate with increased armor penetration. Reflex carries the most arrows and has the highest firing rate, but the lowest armor penetration. Simple bows lie somewhere in between.

Bows are especially effective in sieges, but also perform well on the field, as they allow players totake out enemies from a safe distance. Quivers also slowly regenerate arrows, keeping bows up to speed with the killing power of their melee counterparts.
1Hammer
A devastating armament to wield on the battlefield, Hammers are two-handed weapons that deal rare but mighty bludgeon damage. This makes them an excellent weapon to dispatch heavily armored opponents with.
Many enemies will be sporting heavy armor, and Hammers have a medium range that makes them effective both in close-quarters sieges and in open-field battles. As such, they prove to be a highly versatile and practical weapon, capable of killing some of the most difficult opponents players might come up against.
