Morbiusis getting raked over the coals as far as reviews go. Expectations for it beforeSpider-Man: No Way Homemight have been low. After all, Morbius isn’t an AAA name in the world ofMarvelcomics. It’s odd that he was given a solo movie in the first place when so many other villains have been passed up.

However, since the multiverse was explored in Spider-Man’s latest adventure, fans may have expected more out ofMorbius. So, not only were the reviews bad, but the hype train seemingly crashed and burned due to these multiverse expectations not getting met. It’s not all bad though. The movie does have some hilarious moments, although Morbius isn’t quite fun enough be considered agood bad movielike the twoVenommovies.
There will be spoilers to properly highlight the best things about the film.

6The Possibilities Of The Vulture
After themultiverse exploring shenanigansofSpider-Man: No Way Home, comic fans may have been anticipating some similar Earth-shattering moments inMorbius. Sadly some fans may be disappointed to find out there are no versions of Spider-Man in this movie. Venom does not even make an appearance other than Michael saying their name.
However, the two end credits scenes involving Adrian Toomes does open up many possibilities. He is seemingly warped into this movie’s universe from the MCU. He is the only character from the MCU to cross over into a non-MCU setup. While some may not have likedMorbius’plot or the movie overall, fans can at least appreciate where this meeting between Toomes and Michael could go.

5Jared Leto Tries His Best
Jared Leto tried to get into theDCUand sort of failed. There were a lot of criticisms going against hisinterpretation of the Joker.Suicide Squad, as a movie overall, was also not well-regraded. So, it wasn’t just Leto’s Joker to blame. Now he gets to try again with a comic empire and, unfortunately, the results seem to be almost the same.

The reviews are even worse forMorbiusthanSuicide Squad. However, as a performance, Leto’s take on the character is much easier to stomach than his Joker impersonation. That said, the script cannot seemingly decide whether it wants to be a silly movie or a serious one. This makes dialogue like “you don’t want to see me when I’m hungry” and “the pretty little stinky pinky” seem odd. Leto delivers the best performance possible with what he is given, making Michael a sympathetic and sort of charming vampire.
Matt Smith also does a great job with what he is given. His character, Milo, is not in the movie enough post vampire transformation. By the time he turns into a villain, the movie doesn’t give Milo enough time to become a full-fledged demon, opting to prioritize scenes involving Michael since he is the hero.

Smith’s performance is reminiscent of his character inLast Night in Soho, except turned up to eleven. There are two scenes inMorbiusinvolving Milo dancing like he is in a Marvel remake ofAmerican Psycho. Unfortunately, Smith isn’t given sufficient time to chew the scenery a bit more.
3Detectives Stroud & Rodriguez
These two detectives are given even less screentime than Michael. Detective Stroud is played by Tyrese Gibson while Detective Rodriguez is played by Al Madrigal. The movie doesn’t let Madrigal fully off the chain so he can be the wonderful standup that he is.
His character is given a sort offear of vampireswhich has him bring out holy water while interviewing Michael. He is humorous but not downright hilarious. Tyrese as Stroud is more serious. The dynamic between the two detectives is interesting to say the least. This duo isn’t oozing with charm but they do at least add some much-needed flavor to the world ofMorbius.

2The Speed Streams
The CG inMorbiusis all over the place. The effects they use on Michael and Milo as theytransform into vampiresis not the best. The bats also range from okay to bad. The effects that do look great involve the speed streams left bring by Michael. Milo is given them as well but they aren’t as colorful, literally, as Michael’s.

When Michael is wearing his orange prison jumpsuit, his streams are orange in turn. When he wears his final coat, which has a purple lining, his streams are purple. The sequence in the subway station is a good example of a chase scene where these streams pop. Unfortunately, the movie doesn’t have enough chases to utilize these effects more, but they deserve praise whether they are inMorbiusfor a minute or several.
1Less Than Two Hours
Most movies tend to be two hours long at minimum nowadays. This is about 90% true of comic book movies especially. A recent one,The Batman, is an example ofa comic filmthat exceeds the norm by being three hours long. It was long, which might have brought down the overall score of the movie for some.
Morbiusis a blessed hour and a half until the credits. In total, it gets close to an 1:44 with credits if viewers wait. However, there is no need as the two bonus scenes are placed after the credits start and not at the end. This means movie goers don’t have to hold themselves before they are about to burst.Morbiusat least doesn’t dawdle.
