The fantasy table-top gameDungeons & Dragonshas been a classic RPG since its initial release in the mid-1970s. In the past years, the growing franchise has released video games and even a film trilogy in the early to late 2000s.
Fans have been awaiting a film reboot and rumors about another movie have been spreading since 2013. Now, Paramount’snewDungeons & Dragonsfilmis in the midst of production, and luckily, the cast and production crew were spotted setting up shop in Carrickfergus, Ireland, and photos from the location reveal some interesting glimpses at the sets and costumes.

The images show a fenced-in area full of trailers and unfinished set designs constructed right in front of the historic Carrickfergus Castle. Some other images also show the construction of an armored boat, an image of possible cast members and stagehands shielding themselves with an umbrella, and Michelle Rodriguez in costume. Rodriguez’s image was caught while she was riding a scooter and wearing an awesome warrior costume. The outfit is a blend of different cultural styles and something between the fighter andranger characters from theDungeons & Dragonsgame.
The castle and style of the armored boat tease a set that is very similar to the scenes from the original film trilogy, although fans can hopefully anticipate some better quality CGI dragons in the newDungeons & Dragonsfilm. Currently set to direct the film is John Francis Daley (Freaks and Geeks,Bones) and Jonathan Goldstein (Game Night). Coincidently, Francis Daley’srole inFreaks and Geekswas a young nerd who constantly playedDungeons & Dragonswith his friends.
Some confirmed cast members includeBridgerton’s own Regé-Jean Page, Rodriguez, Chris Pine, Justice Smith, Hugh Grant, Sophia Lillis, Jason Wong, Chloe Coleman, and Daisy Head. No character names have been revealed yet. The cast features many interesting names and actors/actresses from vastly different backgrounds, staying true to the same odd cast combinations of the original films.
With numerous production and studios changes, among other setbacks, fans have been left not knowing what to expect from the film. Filming launched in Iceland around April 2021 and continued shortly after in Belfast, Ireland. The production team has now clearly just set up shop in Carrickfergus. The film’s original release date was July 23rd, 2021, but setbacks and the pandemic led to the release date being continuously pushed back. Hopefully, the already long wait forDungeons & Dragonswill not be extended further for any reason.
