After launching last November, it’s been a rough road for DICE’s latest game,Battlefield 2042. The community appears to be at odds with the developer over numerous changes or omissions as well as the various bugs that still plague the experience includingthe hilariously broken takedown animations. Displeased with DICE’s ownBattlefield 2042End-of-Round screen, a player has recently posted their own version of the much-maligned match summary.
Compared to the original version of theBattlefield 2042match summary, the one that BesterSpieler0 has edited together and posted on the game’s main subreddit is much more somber and serious. It does away with the game’s oddly happy-go-lucky character quips, focusing instead on highlighting player accomplishments to the beat of theBattlefield 2042soundtrack.

This surprisingly subdued, yet lovingly pieced-together end of round screen seems to be inspired by dramatic diorama-style scenes, rather than relying on character quips and flashy animations - both of which have been criticized bytheBattlefield 2042subreddit this video was posted on. Instead, players are treated to a neat overview of the three biggest accomplishments of the given match, and a small chat window in the upper right corner of the screen. Once these are all shown off, players also get to see what their own squad did over the course of the match in an appropriately fancy sequence.
It’s worth pointing out that the diorama itself was, in fact, sourced from a recent match summary bug, with featured characters frozen in place instead of quipping away as they usually would. The user enhanced this bugged scene with a few visual effects (such as the sniper rifle’s muzzle flash and back blast), as well as the squad summary. These sound like simple additions on paper, but the end result is, in fact, remarkably appealing and more in line with previousBattlefieldtitles.
Even though the end of round screen hasn’t been nearly asharshly criticized as certain other elements ofBattlefield 2042, fans have been vocal in their dislike of the feature. The game is set in the midst of a global ecological and financial crisis, with private military contractors reigning supreme, and with loyalty in short supply. Yet, match summaries feature quips and jokes that seem at odds with the general style ofBattlefield 2042,one of the main reasons that prompted the player to come up with a custom end of round edit all of their own.
As thoughtful as this edit of the match summary is, it’s always worth pointing out that the developers' intent for a game can very well differ from what the community might want from it. There’s an argument to be made thatBattlefield 2042could have worked as a “hero”-oriented FPS, too, even though fans of classicBattlefieldgames may disagree. Either way, fan ingenuity is to be celebrated, with this custom edit just the latest in a long line ofawesome videos theBattlefieldcommunity is known for.
