Bad news for fans of the caped crusader as Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has delayed the remasteredBatman: Return to Arkhamcollection indefinitely.
A statement on theWB Games forumannounced the unfortunate news to fans who were eagerly awaitingReturn to Arkham’s release next month.
“After reviewing the progress of the project, the team at WB Games has decided to delay the release of Batman: Return to Arkham to give the team at Virtuous Games additional time to deliver a polished Batman Arkham game experience,” said a spokesperson for Warner Bros. “We do not have a release date yet and will be sure to communicate that once we are sure the game will be ready.”
The post also noted that while the news is disappointing, WB Games believe that it will give the team a chance to create the best gaming experience forArkhamfans. The delay might actually please a lot of gamers, judging by the reaction to theReturn to Arkhamgraphics comparisonvideo that was created last month.
In the video, it is obvious that the remastered games have seen a great improvement to their textures and asset quality, though often it seems that the original games still look far better simply due to their lighting. With the new games missing Batman’s iconic darkness, it is likely that this is one of the major issues that Warner Bros. will want to fix before the game gets its next release date.
The remaster bundle was originally set to release on July 26 for the PS4 and Xbox One, bringingArkham AsylumandArkham Cityonto the current-gen consoles with updated graphics.Leaked in recent months, the collection featured remastered versions of the games made in the Unreal Engine 4 and featured all DLC that was released for both titles.
It’s anybody’s guess as to whether this delay will affect the rumoredArkham KnightGame of the Year Editionthat popped up last month, though a GOTY requires no extra remaster work and would only be delayed if WB wanted to release it alongside the older games for fans who want to jump into the series for the first time.
All things considered, it’s a good thing that the developers want to take the time to ensure their release is up to scratch. Given how poorArkham Knight’s release was handled, it is clear that WB Games doesn’t want to follow in the broken title’s footsteps anytime soon. What’s more, though it’s disappointing for those fans who were looking forward to revisitingArkhamagain next month, we are of the opinion that theBatman games don’t need a remaster, so picking up the original titles for a cheaper price might just be the way to go for the time being.
Batman: Return to Arkhamwill release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game does not currently have a release date.
