Since its first announcement back in 2018, details surrounding the highly anticipatedBabylon’s Fallhave been mute. Save for a teaser trailer during PlayStation’s State of Play in 2019, players have been more or less left in the dark as far as what to expect from the hack and slash adventure. That all changed duringSquare Enix’s showcase at E3 2021, where the first full trailer forBabylon’s Fallwas revealed.
Developed in partnership with PlatinumGames, known for its work on the acclaimedNieR: Automata, theBabylon’s Falltrailer showed off tons of action gameplay, ranging from fluid combat to the variety of weapons and abilities available to players. Notably, the game is an MMO, meaning that players can group up with four others in co-op online multiplayer.

The core concept of the game focuses on players navigating towards a “never-ending goal.” Similar toFinal Fantasy 14, players can venture alone or in groups of four to clear dungeons in various locations, with a boss at the end of each floor. To add, players can also collect equipment from defeated enemies and combine them in order to obtain upgrades. Some weapons available to use include swords, hammers, bows, staffs, and shields.
WithBabylon’s Fall,PlatinumGamessought to differentiate it from other hack and slash games. In comparison to those that focus on a combination of weapons and armor,Babylon’s Falloffers players an insane amount of freedom when it comes to customizing builds for combat. A lot of it is based around an item called the “Giden Coffin,” which enables the use of multiple free-floating weapons that operate independently of the player’s current state.
Although billed as a live service title,Babylon’s Fallis slated to feature a range of post-launch game modes in the form of updates, along with new items and equipment. The game is also set to release with a battle pass that gives players access to in-game cosmetics, as well as having some direct purchases. There’s even a community site set to launch alongside the game that allows players the convenience of changing equipment, crafting, and creating builds, a lot likeDestiny 2.
Unfortunately, there’s no telling when the tentative hack and slash game may be released, though chances are it won’t be long now. The good thing is that for any soon-to-be fans, the developer is currently recruiting players looking to participate in the closed beta.
Babylon’s Fallis currently in development for PC, PS4, and PS5.
