Crashes and disconnects inApex Legendscontinue to be one of the battle royale’s most pressing issues, especially on PC. Respawn Entertainment, in a “check-in” post to its Reddit community, confirmed that it’s continuing to makecrashes and stabilitya development priority. In the same post, however, Respawn also shot down one of players' most requested additions, which is a reconnect feature. According to Respawn, it has no intention of adding a reconnect feature toApex Legends.

The official comment fromRespawnis that the company isn’t pursuing the development of a reconnect feature. The company does acknowledge thatApex Legendsplayers are requesting it, however. It also acknowledges why it’s being requested, which is due to the continued presence of full game crashes and overall stability issues. Respawn, however, doesn’t acknowledge the general importance of a reconnect feature simply due to the realities of modern Internet stability.

Respawn’s justification for passing over the reconnect feature is already stirring up some frustration. Respawn cited two reasons for not developing a reconnect feature. The first is that a reconnect feature “opens a lot of risk for players to abuse it,” and the developer doesn’t elaborate any further than that. The second is that Respawn believes the resources necessary develop it would be “better spent focused on fixing stability issues so that the feature isn’t necessary.”

Apex Legendsplayers responded with frustration to Respawn’s statement, with one of the top responses on Reddit saying, “Reconnect not being a top priority is a bummer.” Respawn citing a risk of abuse is especially causing confusion, as players have seen reconnect features implemented simply and effectively in games likePlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

Lack of resources is more understandable, as stability is paramount, but insinuating that a perfectly stableApex Legendswould render a reconnect feature unnecessary doesn’t seem accurate. After all, disconnects are always an issue due to both Internet stability and platform stability, if not the stability ofApex Legendsitself.

For now, the reconnect feature inApex Legendsis off the table. Respawn will continue to focus on stability issues, instead. Plus, the studio likely has its hands full with the pending release of itsbattle pass, new characters, and any number of other feature additions. It’s unlikely that the call for a reconnect feature will disappear from theApex Legendscommunity, however.

Apex Legendsis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
