Tomorrow’sPS5"The Future of Gaming" event is likely to feature many, many game announcements for Sony’s next-gen console. Coinciding with those announcements, it wouldn’t be surprising if online retailers opened preorders for many of those games. Amazon UK, it seems, got prepared a bit earlier than necessary. The storefront published a variety of profiles forPS5games on Wednesday morning, including for publishers/developers like Bethesda, Rockstar, Konami, and Koch.
To clarify, none of the new game listings actually featured a game title. Rather, they each had a placeholder titled with a format akin to “2020 Dummy ASIN Konami Game 2 PS5.” According to a self-proclaimed Amazon vendor who checkedAmazon UK’s listings, Amazon UK added 118 different new PS5 dummy placeholders this morning. Only 3 profiles remain up, but all of those PS5 listings remain waiting behind the scenes.

As far as which publishers or game developers have listings, the list is pretty much what should be expected. Activision, Bandai Namo,Bethesda, Deep Silver/Koch, EA, Konami, Microsoft, Rockstar, Sega, Sony, Take-Two/2K, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros make up the list. It’s not clear if that’s all of the game companies listed, however. There could be more.
Of note, Microsoft is in that list. That’s not necessarily because Microsoft is bringing next-gen games to the PS5. Rather, listings for the Xbox Series X were also added to Amazon UK’s database. TheXbox Series Xeven has more listings than that PS5, with 132 game profiles to the PS5’s 118.
The retailer notes that this doesn’t mean the PS5 is going to have 118 games up for pre-order soon. Many of the listings could be for different versions of a game, so deluxe editions andcollector’s editionslikely each have their own profile. There’s also likely to be cross-gen games being ported to next-gen consoles. Still, it’s a lot of games. Gamers won’t lack for choice when next-gen consoles are launched later this year.
It’s reasonable to question the validity of these Amazon UK listings as a leak. There’s nothing to say whether or not these profiles are legitimate, or whether they insinuate anything more than pre-orders eventually becoming available. That said, there’s absolutely a possibility that tomorrow’s PS5 event will break the damn an unleash a wave of next-gen game pre-orders. To find out, PlayStation fans will have to tune into thePS5 “The Future of Gaming” eventat 1:00 pm PT.
