Bandai Namco, Sora Ltd, and Nintendo shocked everyone when they delivered one of the greatest crossover fighting games to date withSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. It was the crossover to end all other crossovers, and the DLC made it even better. Players came to duke it out with their favorite characters, and they stayed because the gameplay loop was so satisfying. It seems like it will be impossible for the nextSuper Smash Brosto hit those same heights, but one strategy may make it very simple.

Nothing will ever be able to compare to the fantastic surprise that wasSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, but that does not mean it cannot be beaten. The game took the crossover concept to an entirely new level, and its successor can top that by finally delivering what players have been asking for otherwise. There are a slew of franchises yet to be tapped by the series, andSuper Smash Bros. 6will be Nintendo’s chance to delve even further into gaming’s history by adding the remaining requested DLC characters that have still yet to join the franchise.

Super Smash Bros. 6 Can Take The Concept to the Next Level

Super Smash Bros. Ultimatestayed very true to its name when it came to its impressive roster of playable characters. The base game featured 63 fighters from across theSuper Smash Bros. series and 11 brand-new additions frompopular franchises likeSplatoonandMetroid. These characters were pulled from Nintendo’s vast catalog as well as numerous other iconic franchises, and it resulted in one of the best crossover games around. That roster was then further expanded through two sets of post-launch DLC that added 12 characters from titles likeMinecraftandKingdom Hearts. But that’s not all.

Super Smash Bros.players have been requesting numerous iconic video game characters for years, and the next title should finally deliver on that potential.Waluigi could finally make his debutafter being left out constantly,Devil May Cry’s Dante could lend his skills to the battlefield,Halo’s Master Chief would make a fine addition to the roster, characters fromSuper Mario RPGcould make an appearance, and Nintendo could even tap into iconic PlayStation franchises likeRatchet and Clank. There are so many different franchises that would fit right into theSuper Smash Bros. franchise, and the next game is the perfect place to explore that potential.

The inclusion of these franchises is contingent on if the owners of the IPs want them to appear inSuper Smash Bros., but most of them seem pretty likely. Waluigi andSuper Mario RPGare Nintendo IPs, so there is no reason they cannot join, andMicrosoft has already lentMinecraftandBanjo-Kazooiecharacters toSuper Smash. Bros Ultimate.Devil May Cry’sDante already appears as a Mii outfit, so his debut as a fighter makes sense. The only one that seems unlikely are the PlayStation franchises as no first-party IPs have appeared before, but there is a first time for everything. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate made a name by itself by including most of everyone in franchise history and then some, so the next game should just take the “then some” to the next level and try to make every character Sora-level inclusions.
